As well as launching the world’s first Tango device, Lenovo have also announced two new models for the Motorola range with Moto Mod add on accessories.
Earlier this year LG released the LG G5 with add on modules that would bring extra features (camera, audio etc) to their flagship phone through snap on modules, well Lenovo and Motorola have come up with something similar with the new Moto Z and Moto Z Force.
Rather than having modules slide into the base of the phone though, the new Moto device have a powerful magnet on the rear where accessories can bee attached too. These attachments are called Moto Mods and at the time of launch there were mods for a battery pack, JBL SoundBoost, a projector and also stylish Moto Shells.
Gizchina News of the week
As for the phones themselves, the Moto Z comes with a 5.5-inch 2K Amoled display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, 13 mega-pixel main camera with OIS, Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB RAM. The Z measures in at just 5.19mm which means that the internal battery is just 2600mAh, but Motorola say its good for 30 hours of use and that their new TurboPower charging can give the phone 8 hours of life from just 15 minutes of charge time.
For those of you wanting a larger built-in battery, and a tougher design there there is the Moto Z Force. This model has a larger 6.99mm body with 3500mAh battery, 21 mega-pixel rear camera, and uses Motorola’s 2nd gen ShatterShield tech.
As for availability, the Moto Z will be available globally in September while the Moto Z Force is currently a Verizon only exclusive.

“As well as [laughing] the world’s first Tango device, Lenovo…”
Pun intended? 😀
Those ‘add-ons’ remind me what (Sony-)Ericsson did a decade ago… just saying…

I guess this will be competitor for VR headset.
Will they be released in Europe ?
Yes, the Z for sure. I read mixed news about the Z Force though.
The idea of *one devices does it all* in my opinion is part of what Samsung got correct (well most of it?) and a bunch of the others are getting WRONG!!!.
People are not in the point to deal with a lot of stuff to carry around. That was years ago.
We want a ” 1 device to do it all”” product that we are able to rely on it to last a good full day of moderate to heavy use, to be fast enough and take good pictures while offering decent audio.
It seems that companies want to go a step back to a failed feature. And to be honest if they fail, well, they had it coming.
Is like: now I want to listen music, ohh I need to put on this thing, ohh I want some more battery I have to put on that thing, bla bla bla
Ok I will cut some slack tho the Z force model as that one is just lacking 3.5mm audio jack, top tier 6gbRam memory and a decent audio chip that could be useless anyway given no 3.5mm jack. It does result good enough as it has same power house as the S7and the price ??…
I don’t know I think maybe I’ve been looking too much at this site, hahaha, and now I’m drowning in the desire of a FULL FEATURED DEVICE at around $500 bucks… I now many here look for a cheap cheap device. But no, not me. I look for a great device at a decent price point with all bells and whistles, the great news at least for me is that it seems that we ARE getting near to that point to that phone featuring the spec’s I usually pack in my annoying long list post every now and then????.
That fingerprint scanner is so hideous….
If it come with 6gb ram…sigh.
I actually think the design looks good. I do dislike the fingerprint scanner on the front, a side fingerprint scanner would’ve been better, but I guess there wasn’t enough space with the Moto Z being so thin and with the mods snapping to the back, it actually makes sense to put it on the front in this case. The lack of a 3,5mm jack is another bad decision (even if it comes with a USB-C to 3,5mm jack) but other than that these devices look pretty good imo. The Z with a power pack cover looks great and gives you a huge battery.
