Apple critic and author of Daring Fireball, John Grisham once (okay, more than once) caught favourite Chinese brand Xiaomi lifting photos and icons from various places a few years back. Fast forward to 2016, and it’s Xiaomi counterpart (and rising threat) Huawei that faces similar charges.
Noticed by Android Police, Huawei were caught using a DSLR picture (top) on social media, talking about it as one taken on the new Leica-powered Huawei P9. Wonder what Leica will have to say about that?
What gave it all away would be the EXIF data that someone from Huawei’s social media team forgot to clean. The EXIF data read the following:
Date taken 3/8/16, 5:35 PM
Dimensions 2000 x 1333
File name 0107 – Huawei – Facebook – Google+ – Instagram – Twitter.jpg
File size 1.75M
Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Lens EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM
Focal Length 135mm
Exposure 1/800
F Number f/4
ISO 500
Camera make Canon
Flash Not used
Exposure Bias -1 EV
Gizchina News of the week
…while Huawei’s social media update read:
We managed to catch a beautiful sunrise with Deliciously Ella. The #HuaweiP9’s dual Leica cameras makes taking photos in low light conditions like this a pleasure. Reinvent smartphone photography and share your sunrise pictures with us. #OO
Hmmmmmmm. Fishy fish.
I wonder how long before the Huawei social media team member finds a new job for himself. Do you remember other tech company fails? The one by Archos tops our list!
Not every smartphone manufacturer is cheating !
Check Elephone, they have a blank record of fraudulent marketing xD
As for Apple, they did NOT had participation in latest Antutu version to ensure the best score for iPhone 7 during its launch. It has been proved to be false by an independant inspector from Apple.
Independent Inspector from apple sounds very stupid..
Independent inspector must be person which isnt interested in particular brand or device and must not be employer to inspected company or bribed or corrupted…
it’s a common shitty practice, therefore it’s no longer shitty!

Good point, if everybody doing it then already become regular thing LFMAO
that’s why you may have considered my post as a joke ^^
This isn’t common practice? I mean, it’s still painful to get caught red handed, but isn’t this normal?
It doesn’t make it OK, but it’s not nearly as surprising as people are making it out to be.
