Elephone P20 camera samples – is the f/1.7 aperture that good?

The upcoming new Elephone P20  looks really good on paper and the only question remains the real availability of the device, because many of us still remember the Vowney fiasco. Look at the specs.
Display will be a 5.5-inch one with FullHD resolution and 3D arc, octa-core Mediatek Helio P20 processor, full metal mody, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, NXP audio chip + AAC speakers, USB Type-C, fast charge support and fingerprint scanner. Not bad huh ? Especially with the price expected to be really customer friendly.
But the thing that turns heads probably the most is the announced camera with 12 MPix resolution and extremely good f/1.7 aparture. The sensor type is still uknown, but we have some official samples allegedly taken by this camera to see the performance. Elephone claim that thanks to the f/1.7 aperture the night shots will be noise-free because the sensor is able to utilize even the light from the ambience.
That’s certainly theoretically true, but if you look at the night shots they look “too perfect” and noise and matrix is visible only after 250 % magnification. So personally i’m thinking the photos are with some postprocessing filters applied or even taken by some high end DSLR. Judge for yourselves.

large aperatures are good an all but you can get into aberration problems, but dual cameras can fix this to some extent buuut lots of phones still wont adopt it maybe because of ois complexity

Cool!! F1.7 is better than a 50mm DSLR lens. Cause that have a F1.8. I have tried with Samsung galaxy S7 edge. The F1.7 gives incredible images and better background blur. Good luck, improve the camera software and it would be a better one 🙂

bro f number isnt just aperture size , its the aperture divided by the sensor size , DSLRs have muchhh bigger sensor sizes so the lens has to be much bigger to achieve f1.8. the f1.8 of canon is far bigger the aperture of phone f1.7

Yeah I know but still F1.7 would give great shots in low lighting conditions, better that other smartphones! don’t you agree with that? 🙂

Elephone doesn’t do cameras. As long as you keep that in mind people would stop being disappointed by their phones.

I bought an Elephone for $150 last year. Still using it, still happy with it, mostly because I keep in mind that it is a cheap secondary phone. When I need a phablet with insane battery life (4100 mAhs) I take my P8000 with me… In all other occasions I don’t.

I would *never* use an Elephone’s camera no matter what they say about it, like I said “Elephone doesn’t do cameras”

Oneplus, Xiaomi, Zte, Meizu, Leeco and many other brands don’t manufacture their own camera module as well, how are they better? It’s also down to software and tuning of the camera which Elephone greatly lacks.

I don’t disagree there, by saying “Elephone doesn’t do cameras” I literally mean, none, nadda, nothing at all. They don’t even do camera’s software, which is why it’s foolish to buy an Elephone and expect good camera.

I only buy them for dirt cheap and use them as PDAs (mostly). They’re great for their price (if you catch them in some offer) but they’re not much more than that…

One thing to complain about is, the camera softwares are not optimized in elephone devices. Its buggy and HDR doesn’t work well, problem with white balance. Fix them first. -_-
