Mystery Xiaomi phone spotted at Chinese certification authority

Xiaomi has a bit going on with the 27th July launch and all, but there seems to be more than just that. To remind you, the July 27th launch is expected to see the launch of the Redmi Pro and a possible Xiaomi laptop.

To add to add, a possible smartphone with extensive network support could come very soon. The leak gives no info on the spec of the phone besides a couple of bits. What it does tell though is that the Xiaomi phone will have a 5V/2A charger (nothing out of the ordinary) and support for a lot of network bands. See picture below for more info.

The phone was spotted on China Compulsory Certification, also known as 3C, with number 2,016,090. It isn’t clear whether the Redmi Pro and what we thought of as the Redmi Note 4 are two separate devices. In case they are, what we’re looking at here could be the latter.

      Mipad 2 is awesome for the price tho. One of the best android tablets out there but Mipad was still better tho, sadly.. better GPU, expendable memory and etc.

        I would say they both have their pro’s and con’s. The MiPad was better for the reasons you mention, the MiPad 2 has a much better build quality, weighs less and it can also be used as a Windows only tablet.

      oh… ofcourse.
      i can understand the frustration many EU and almost all US customers face while buying chinese smartphones. (sorta like region-blocking SEA and SAM regions in some games , but that shuts off the whole product rather than one or two aspects of it ? )
      its high-time the chinese do something about it (altho i thought 6753 had ‘WORLD LTE’ support or something like that ?! )

        Most SoCs have worldwide GSM LTE coverage. It’s up to each individual company to use the correct antennae to support those bands. A lot of smaller companies won’t support them because of licensing costs. For Xiaomi there is no excuse.

  At one time they were the biggest brand in China and there were fears if they launched globally they could take down Samsung. But over the past few years we have seen some subpar products (Mi4i, Mi5), some confusing products that never made sense (Mi4s) and international expansion moving at a snails pace.
  Their misfortunes have been capitalized on by Huawei, ZTE, OnePlus and even the Gionee sub-brands like Blu and Allview. The days of making China only products have to end because the Chinese market is matured there is no room for growth.

    Xiaomi screwed up with Mi4i and the global ROM on the Mi5 but the Redmis have been blockbusters and the Mi5 now is excellent for the price. It is Meizu that fell on it’s face with its overpriced mid-range specs and LeEco with its quality control issues and lack of headphone jack. In comparison Xiaomi is holding its own in a very competitive space.

      Meizu has been doing very well, the MX6 had 3.5 million registrations in the first 24 hours, the Pro 6 and Mnote 3 both had very successful launches as well. LeEco is expanding to the US and Europe this year. Xiaomi needs to start offering global products or it’s going to be left in the dust.

        A registration isn’t a sale, only a fraction will buy it. The Pro 6 has been a colossal failure because it wasn’t priced competitively while the M3 Note was. Since the Pro 6 Meizu has been laying one overpriced egg after another. LeEco has much work to do if they are going to launch globally, like a total revamp of their QC department. Xiaomi needs to start offering Western bands and work on their global ROMs to prevent bugs, that is far less than the other companies need to do.

        A registration isn’t a sale but it gives you a strong indication of how interested people are in that phone/brand. Only a fraction will buy it because of supply, the demand is still present with most of the most people wanting to buy one. To you Meizu’s are overpriced, to fans of their phones they are not they continue to sell well and the demand continues to be high. Meizu has a small but strong fanbase in China.
        LeEcco is already lights years ahead of Xiaomi for a US Launch. They have already bought land and opened offices in the US. And all of their new phones have global LTE. Xiaomi is playing catch up to LeEco, ZTE, OnePlus, Huawei and a few others. I make these comments as someone who has been a Xiaomi fan since their beginnings.

        Targeting the Chinese and Indian markets makes more sense to me actually. Those markets combined with the rest of Asia account for about half of the world’s mobile phone users. If localized means concentrating on those markets then you’re wrong. They simply don’t need the America’s or Europe.

        Targeting India would make sense except for the fact that half of Xiaomis products can’t be sold in India due to Mediatek. The Chinese market has matured for Xiaomi, there is little room for growth,they need new markets if they want to grow.

        The Snapdragon Note 3 Pro was specifically designed for the Indian market and is immensely popular there. The Mediatek issue is something that can be overcome anyway. Xiaomi are concentrating on Asia for now it seems and the numbers justify that decision. Western markets can also justifiably be viewed as more trouble than they’re worth. The two largest markets in the Americas (US and Brazil) have only 700 million mobile users compared to over 3.5 billion in Asia. Yeah I’d like more Xiaomi phones to have more LTE bands. Now they’re releasing the MI box in the US things will probably change for their phones too.

        It can be overcome but so far Xiaomi has not overcome it. They refuse to work out a deal with Ericsson in India and continue to release Mediatek phones. America and Europe are the future for most Chinese brands. Most of your 3.5 billion figure is China and India. Xiaomi has very little future growth in China and can’t sell all their products in India. That leaves countries with worse economies and lower disposable income than North America and Europe which have over 1 billion potential customers. Many of Xiaomis competitors are already entering those markets because their is more money to be made there. For Xiaomi to continue it’s rate of growth it needs the US and Europe.

        You’re right of course and I’m certain it will eventually happen. But take the case of the Japanese brands and Sharp in particular. Like Xiaomi they make multiple products and have zero interest in selling their (very nice) phones outside Japan. Again, they may not necessarily place as much emphasis on the west as you do. Xiaomi have many products to sustain their growth as a whole and their phone division is just one. Personally I’d love to get my hands on one of their 4K TV’s.

        Sharp and Xiaomi are two completely separate companies. Sharp actually sells most of their products worldwide, their smartphone division never gained traction outside Japan and a few Asian markets. Xiaomis goal is to become the number 1 smartphone manufacturer in the world, that can’t happen without the west.

        Are you sure they continue to release so much mtk phones? if you notice, snapdragon surfaced on all their latest products which usually were mtk territory, the redmi serie (redmi 3/3 pro, 3s/3spro/3x, RN3 Pro), they almost dumped mtk (only regular RN3 comes to mind), I believe this in not a coincidence, plenty of opportunity for them in India with those entry level-midrange products. Americas will follow after India.
        Europe will only come after those two, in my opinion. We’ll see.

        Early leaks suggest the Redmi Pro will be the best Redmi products ever. Not being able to sell one of you’re best products in one of the biggest markets is not good.

        it has to be the best at the best price for that given market, for indian market the cheaper the better, especially if they want to make some noise and get a solid fan base.
        They will make solid numbers with redmi 3, they won’t need heavy artillery to outlcass the likes of micromax and other sub-quality indian producers, redmi 3 and redmi note 3 pro are enough to make some very huge impact, you’ll see. Some SD variant of the Redmi Pro may also come, or they may finally get the license to sell mtk phones there, who knows.

      They are but they aren’t serious enough to work out a deal with Ericsson to sell their Mediatek devices in India. Nearly every other company did except for them.
