Vernee are not an established company on the chinese mobile market, but the startup managed to get quite a promising start in 2016 and so far exactly following their plan about releasing three different models during the calendar year. After the first Vernee Thor they launched the quite interesting Vernee Apollo Lite and with proper and frequent updated the customer care looks quite good too,
So far not a word about the full fledged Apollo model, but today they announced the launch of a completely new model. It’s once again following the “god” naming model and the Vernee Mars should see the light of the day in November.
Gizchina News of the week
Judging by the tiny bit of the specs information it looks like an interesting device with octa-core Mediatek Helio P20 clocked at 2,3 GHz and hefty 6 GB RAM capacity. The rest is yet to be revealed.
No idea about the pricing either, but with the November launch date there is plenty of time for that and maybe they are also waiting for the developments and price shifts on the market before commiting to a certain number.
Nov launch because they are waiting for P20 to become available. P20 starts shipping in Q4 so even Nov is optimistic for this device actually shipping.
Depends what you compare it with.
vs SD625 it kinda matches it in GPU but has higher CPU clocks , the option of dual chan DDR4 and up to 6GB, supports that crazy fast charging (that’s optional ofc).It is only CAT 6 while SD625 has CAT7 , might matter for very few but it’s the 1 thing they messed up.
It’s also ahead of Samsung or Huawei in perf vs their 14/16nm 8xA53.
Spreadtrum SC9860 should cost more, has lower CPU clocks, but MP4 so should be much faster on the GPU side and has CAT 7. There is also an unknown Spreadtrum SoC showing up in benchmarks, the SC9850,could be a cut down version of the SC9860. The score is very low only because they score next to nothing in AES and SHA1 but that should be a software issue that will be sorted out when devices show up. https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/5489668?baseline=7427918
While at it, there is a new leak about X30. Max clocks confirmed at 2.8Ghz. That might indicate A72 not A73 since with 2xA73 it’s likely they could have reached 3GHz.Remains to be seen but A72 would be a bit disappointing and they would lose to Qualcomm as Qualcomm is likely to have a slightly custom A73 branded as Kryo. ARM has this new type of license where ARM itself does slight changes and the core can be branded in any way one wants with a footnote that it’s “Built on ARM Cortex technology”.
Do note that the timing should be production not when it ships.Just yesterday Mediatek said that P20 ships in Q4 so that’s certain.
