News today tells how the mystery Meizu E phone, launching on the 10th August, could be a new mid-range device not a flagship.
Last week when the Meizu E rumours began everyone has simply believed the device will be a new flagship, even rumours of the specifications told of high-end hardware from a dual camera set up to curved 2K display, but this now seems to be well off the mark.
Earlier this week an image of the Meizu E leaked and looked a lot like the new MX6, now it seems the Meizu E will be a new mid-range smartphone, and possibly be a replacement to the Meizu Metal.
New specification details back this up with a 5.5-inch FHD display, Helio P10 chipset, 3GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, and 3100mAh battery.
Gizchina News of the week
While another mid-ranger is very much welcomed by the market, the Meizu E is going to struggle with those specs when a similar priced Xiaomi Redmi Pro (yes, the Meizu is rumoured to cost around the same price) gets a more powerful Helio X20 chipset and dual camera feature. In fact the E’s specs read like a repacked Meizu Metal, a good phone, but not one for today’s market at that price point.
It’s still all very much a mystery, but it will be solved come the 10th August, which might also be the date we see Meizu’s smartwatch launch.
yeah you keep saying that … until news of $250 2k meizu with killa specs comes up and you rushin’ to buy that crazy af :p
From what i’ve seen, Meizu slowly are fading. Hope i’m wrong, but if they don’t come up with something impressive and fresh, in 2 years they will be…
Yeah I think that their main issues are that since they signed the investment deal with mediatek it appears they have sopped using the more powerful exynos chipsets completely and pissed off qualcomm as well with patent stuff so they won’t be using snapdragons any time soon either so are now overcharging for mediatek devices. Then secondly they are getting left behind in terms of camera tech, if they had been making devices with really good cameras then it may have off set some of the less powerful the meditek cpu’s they’ve been using at the top end and mid range, sadly they are just average on most of their devices .
They never have used a Qualcomm chip and never had any intention on it. As far as Exnyos goes it’s not just the MTK investment, it’s also the fact that Exnyos chips don’t support every network in China. Meizu still has a very strong relationship with Samsung and uses many components from them.
But none of that has affected their sales, people in China are still buying them by the millions. The use of MTK may not seem popular to people on sites like this, but their fans don’t seem to mind.
Yeah I know they never used Qualcomm chips but that is not to say that they couldn’t have changed track at some point in the future (like when xiaomi started using mediatek after being strictly qualcomm), although very unlikely now given the investment. Much more likely the will make more exynose devices if samsung update their network support. Yeah they still sell a lot in china but just frustrating that they haven’t produced any real stand out devices this year. If the pro 6 had been really strong I would have snatched it up in a heart beat as Flyme is so sweet.
Interest in their recent phones has been very good in China, their most important market. The MX6 was so popular it crashed their website and resulted in 3.5 million pre-sales in the first 24 hours. Meizu has a solid fanbase that continues to buy their phones, they will be fine in China in 2 years.
but but… the mx6 was lame af for a phone (or do you secretly have a crush on it !? oh my GOD balco! , this was the LAST thing i was expecting !)
I have zero intention of buying an MX6, it’s not even in my top 50 list. I just read up on a lot of smartphone news.
Balco, just a question regarding FlyMe… I tried FlyMe 5 on my redmi note 3 and it seems that the android option “disable app” function is removed. So I was stuck with some Chinese app and some kind of game store. Is this the case across all Meizu devices?
Depends on the apps. All of the Flyme Apps I couldn’t do anything with (there was about 10-15 of them) so I just stuck them in a folder and never really used them, although the Flyme Browser I liked a lot. But every other app you should be able to disable or uninstall. If you root it and use Titanium you can get rid of them that way but a lot of them will come back when you update it.
It always was a midrange phone, there was more credible evidence that pointed to a P10 than a Exnyos, but people ignored it completely because of the thought of a Exnyos (which is the best overall SoC in many peoples opinion).
