Mediatek’s Helio range of processors finally get’s a processor that can take on top draw chips from Kirin, Samsung and Qualcomm.
Love them or hate them, Mediatek have really put on a solid show this year with the released of Helio X20 phones and the slightly tuned up Helio X25, but with the official announcement for the new X30 the semiconductor maker is aiming to take it up a notch.
The Helio X30 isn’t set to be in phones until early next year, but we already have a good idea that the SOC is really going to be something to look forward too.
Gizchina News of the week
Updates over the current X20/X25 include the move from 20nm manufacturing to 10nm, in addition the chip now uses Cortex A35 cores to further improve efficiency and battery life.
Full on speed is still the aim of the game with the X30 though, so the top 2 cores A72 running at a reported 2.8Ghz.
Other features include support of 16 mega-pixel cameras and video at 60fps, support for 8GB RAM and the inclusion of a quad-core PowerVR 7XT GPU.
As already mentioned we don’t expect Mediatek to get the Helio X30 into phones until early next year, and it remains to be seen which manufacturer will get the chipset first. What do you think of the new SOC and which brand will get it first?
LMAO are you guys doing this every week now?
Lets see how this went.
Digitimes reported that TSMC will start volume production for MTK’s 10nm chips in Q1 http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160809PD202.html
The China press reported on that article and listed the rumored specs, that we know are at least in part true. http://www.anzhuo.cn/news/p_13537
At this point some moron on some Western site decided to claim that Mediatek has launched the X30 and now a bunch of sites are reporting the specs or , even worse , the launch.
We know that it’s 10 cores on 10nm and CAT 10-12. We also know that the GPU is Imagination. All that from a recent interview. We also know from their latest results call that it’s not using InFO and will ship in the first half of 2017.And a few days ago this leak confirmed the 2.8GHz clocks and a bit more on production timing. All else are rumors and speculations and some are bound to be accurate, not that many options available to chose from. http://www.mtksj.com/uploads/allimg/160804/1-160P412391GA.jpg
