Following the yesterday’s UMI Max official reveal the community members voices quite strongly their dissatisfaction and sense of being misled with the phone’s parameters and the somewhat confusing name. The Max comes with the normal 5,5-inch display size, so nothing really “max” in the chinese sense of things so it’s actually quite understandable. The phone overally just looks like a rehashed version of their previous models and the only thing it can surprise with is the very low and affordabe price tag.
And seems like even the UMI brass realized quite quickly that this is not going to fly so easily so through the mouths of two high managers we are getting the damage control PR spin. So what are these two guys trying to explain?
Let’s start with the product manager Heaven: “Max means “maximum” screen size without making overall footprint too big. This is a key to ergonomic design, according to our beliefs here at UMi. UMi Max gets inspiration from two well-known characters: Hulk, and Popeye. In the sense that the Max is as powerful as the Hulk, but at the same time, as subtle and sharp as Popeye!”Uhm, alright, thanks Heaven i guess…

And what about the chief of marketing Henry? Here we go: “There are three things worth noting about the UMi Max. Number one: Beauty max; the UMi Max has been designed to be aesthetically pleasing, while being productive in design and in function. Emphasis has been given to clean lines and clutter free design. Number two, Power max; The UMi Max is equipped with the high-performance MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 processor, which makes it suitable for playing high-end games such as Asphalt 6, and of course, Pokemon Go! Number three, Battery max; The UMi Max uses a hefty 4000mAh battery that is large in capacity but not in size! This allows the phone to get long hours of usage. Combined with power-saving techniques in software, the UMi Max is a complete battery beast. It also comes with 256GB microSD support, HiFi + USB Type-C, 7-color breathing light button, and more!”
Well here we go, two official statements concerning the somewhat disappointing reveal of the UMI Max. So what do you think about that? Comments below are at your disposal.
