Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 launched in China, here are the full specs

Well we expected Xiaomi to launch something largish today and are gut feeling was correct with the Beijing brand announcing the Redmi Note 4.

As we all know the Redmi range of phones has been the bread and butter for Xiaomi over the years, and as time has gone by we have seen the mini brand benefit from a range of devices.

The Redmi Note 3 launched last year and was a popular device for it’s larger screen, metal body and good pricing, now Xiaomi hope to recapture that success with the release of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Specs for the Redmi Note 4 are the same across the board with the only differences between the two models available being the amount of internal storage, RAM and pricing.

As for these specs well they include a new unibody metal design with chamfered edges and 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display with 2.5D curved glass up front.

The rear of the Redmi Note 4 s where we find the 13 mega-pixel rear camera and like previous models we get the benefit of super fast PDAF autofocus, but now also a larger F2.0 aperture as well. Eagle eyed readers will have noticed that the fingerprint scanner has remained on the rear too, not moved to the front like some rumours had suggested.

The Redmi Note 4 comes with MIUI 8 pre-installed and this runs on a 2.1Ghz Mediatek Helio X20 10 core chipset. A hybrid SIM slot will let the user have either two sims in operation or a single SIM and up to 128GB SD card.

Last but not least is the large 4100mAh battery and a choice of colours.

Chinese pricing for the phone starts at just 899 Yuan ($135) for the 16GB + 2GB RAM model rising to only 1199 Yuan ($180) for the 64GB + 3GB version, which looks like a bargain to us! What do you think?

  Problem is if Xiaomi release Redmi Note 4 Pro with Qualcomm 652 then they will attack their own product Mi MAX.
  I don’t mind buying Mi MAX but for now their price is still too expensive because it must go through china online re-seller. Need to wait a couple months before it goes down.

  In EU, we do not buy Xiaomi, because it has not got EU LTE. We buy other China phones.

    Technically it does have some EU LTE, it’s missing Band 20 but it will work in several major European cities. Which is a lot better than the US where it won’t work on LTE at all.

The weakest point for this one is 2GB RAM ,would have been better if they had 3GB RAM and 32GB NAND and price it at 999CNY. It’s also too little over the previous model, a better SoC over SD650 and not much else.
The 360 N4 comes with 4GB RAM, 32GB NAND ,plastic back and has faster charging but smaller battery, guess it remains the leader in value.
The Note 3 Pro had a cam that was too weak, hopefully they did better here.
Ideally they should have went 5.7-5.9 inch with the Note as 5.5 inch has been mainstream for years and they have the Redmi Pro anyway at 5.5. Note is , by definition bigger than mainstream. They stick with 5.5 for cost reasons but that’s not a good enough reason.
All in all it’s pretty nice but it really should have 3GB RAM for the base model even if the price was a bit higher.

  nah, the weakest point is absence of EU LTE bands. I really dont understand this. Xiaomi started to equip newer models with EU LTE bands, but for some reason, they did not do this with this one again. Im confused

      Its not only for China. It has Global versions. Note 3 Pro has Special edition with Band 20!

      Hi Balco, what do you think about the Redmi Note 4? Is it better to go for the Note 3 Pro or should I buy the Redmi Note 4? A Pro version with Snapdragon Soc will be released in coming weeks but I can’t wait. Moreover, the Note 3 Pro is now cheaper and offers similar performance to the Note 4. Mediatek Soc are really bad? People complain a lot about Mediatek, is it so bad to buy a phone with Soc from Mediatek? Thanks!

        Mediatek SoC’s aren’t as bad as people make them out to be, for most people they are excellent chips. The people who complain about them usually have one of two complaints: Weak GPU and lack of community support. The GPU is usually a little overblown, the Qualcomm chips do have better GPU’s but the Helio range can still play most games without issues. I might struggle on the most graphically intense games at high settings. But everything else will run without issues. Mediatek doesn’t release the source code for their chips to the public, you have to pay for it so if you plan on using custom ROM’s it’s better to go with the SD version. If you only plan to use MIUI (which is excellent) then it isn’t an issue for you.
        Having said all that if you can find the Note 3 Pro for a good price it is still an excellent phone to get.

        Thank you for your reply, to be honest I don’t see a huge improvement here compared to the Note 3 Pro. However, I would say that the Note 4 has a lot better design and build quality. In terms of performance, I think they are in the same range. If I go for the Note 4 I will have to pay around $260 through resellers. Some users say that the Note 4 has similar camera to the Note 3 Pro. If the improvement is not confirmed for the camera on the Note 4, then I will get the Note 3 Pro for sure.

        For now you better buy Redmi Note 3 pro.
        Pricing for this new release will be staying expensive for months later until they release the Pro version with better spec (i pray hard that they will the qualcomm version soon LOL)
        The upgrade is not significance from Redmi Note 3 pro and yet so high pricing from china online reseller. If price decrease until almost the same then you can consider to buy either one of them.
        I bought Redmi Note 3 pro 2 months ago at aliexpress only at $165 for prime version 3GB/32GB. I bought Silver color because at that time this color was the cheapest. Gold color also you can get for cheap price.
        Btw somehow those china re-seller always sell the Redmi note 3 pro grey color at higher price, not sure why.

  Redmi Note 3 doesn’t have SD650, Pro version has it. You compared Note 4 to Note 3 Pro. Note 3 has X10, so they upgraded their base model from X10 to X20.
  Note 4 Pro may have a QC SoC ^^

    There is no Qualcomm SoC that wouldn’t be a downgrade in this price range so obviously there won’t be a 4 Pro. What Note 5 uses remains to be seen.

  Redmi Note 3 doesn’t have SD650, Pro version has it. You compared Note 4 to Note 3 Pro. Note 3 has X10, so they upgraded their base model from X10 to X20.

  HIGH PERFORMANCE
  – Mi5 and Note
  MIDDLE PEFORMANCE
  – Mi4s and Redmi Note
  LOW PERFORMANCE
  – Redmi and Redmi Note
  6 products that meet all people (small and big display).
