It was recently learnt that Meizu would be following the likes of Xiaomi, ZTE, etc. to launch a ‘Max’ of their own, the Meizu Max. It’s only been 24 hours or so since we first reported about it, but there’s already a set of leaked photos.
From the photos, the Meizu Max (or could it be the third variant from the M-series, the M3 Max? Time will tell) looks like a bloated M3E… which isn’t surprising. Most ‘Max’ phones this year have been that way, anyway.
Here are the pictures for you to look at. What do you think? I feel there’s no ‘Max’ phone yet with a compelling design… and this includes the Xiaomi Max.
Gizchina News of the week
Meizu have an event scheduled for the 5th of September, making it quite a busy season for them. There’s no word on pricing or specifications of this phone, but looking at the current trend, don’t expect a powerhouse. Also, FYI, rumours from China are hinting at a 1799 yuan ($270) price tag for now, which is probably just rumour and not much else.
ikr 😀
but i wanted to see meizu take a huge decision. too bad they lack the balls for that !
I agree with you there. I like meizu… Using a m2 note currently, but I’m disappointed with their recent offerings. The m3 note was OK, but the p10 SoC has been rather mediocre, and the camera was very disappointing. They are always a step behind xiaomi for the same price point. I do like Flyme though. Then again I like MIUI as well (have my mom, and sisters using mi4’s)
It has nothing to do with the cost. Meizu has used Exynos chips for years. In fact Meizu was one of the first companies to partner with Samsung for full use of their components. The two have a very strong relationship. It has to do with the network support. The latest Exyos chips don’t have full network support for China. That is the same reason that Chinese versions of the Galaxy S7 use the SD820, whereas the rest of Asia pretty much uses the Exnyos 8890.
like balcobomber said: Exynos 8890 is a dead rumour, but GizChina keeps it alive.
It’s never happening. Until Exnyos chips have full network support for China we won’t see them in Meizu’s again. Hopefully the successor to the 8890 does because right now that Exnyos is the best overall chip.
Exnyos is made in factories in both Korea and Vietnam. Samsung is Korean but China is a very important market for them
Yes. But I don’t know the factors behind the decisions they might not have been able to secure the necessary licensing for that network type or the modem they are using just doesn’t support that network type.
You are partially correct it is Korea and Austin, Vietnam is where the phones are manufactured.
