Photo Feature: Xiaomi’s AmazFit Smartwatch

Xiaomi have taken their own time in coming out with this one, but the Huami AmazFit smartwatch does look like something tech heads would want around their wrists.

The device is a little pricey for Xiaomi standards, as far as I’m concerned. However, it could well turn out to be well worth the money. The Xiaomi Mi Band, the Mi Band 1S and the Mi Band 2 have all been extremely well received devices, and it remains to be seen how the market reacts to the AmazFit smartwatch.

Anyway, here are some photos of the gadget. Up, close and personal.

The AmazFit is only going to be sold in China, at least for the time being. However, you will be able to purchase one from the multitude of resellers… here, for example, it’s on pre-order for $166 (pre-orders start Monday).

This is one ugly smartwatch. First, the orange band… are you kidding me? Why didn’t they keep it with the neutral black look of the Mi Band which can match anything? Strap change can solve this but come on…..
Next, that thick black border bezel. I understand the flat tire being needed for auto screen brightness adjust…. but that black border – no excuse.
Glossy metal used as the casing. With this being aimed at fitness… this will be a sweat mark and finger print/oil magnet – even during normal use!
The price, considering no Android Wear and only the MiFit app…. what does this add over the Mi Band in this case that justifies the price? Really…. tell me what? All I see is actually reading notifications. Owning a Mi Band 2, this band looks way better physically than this watch, and does everything except notification reading. Heart rate constant reader can be done via 3rd party apps. Why would I buy this when there are other Chinese smartwatches out there around the $100 mark that are leagues better than this. Or… I can have the Mi Band 2 on my right wrist and a cheaper $50 but better looking smartwatch (NO.1 smartwatches I am looking at you) on my left for only notification reading.
I love Xiaomi, I own many of their products and whenever I am in the market for something I look to that company first to see if they make it. But this, I refuse to buy.
