LeEco have finally unveiled their much awaited Le Pro 3 and it seems to have caught the attention of many. Thus we now go through a list of things that you need to know about the LeEco Le Pro 3, already renamed the ‘OnePlus 3 killer’.
1. Full metal design & colors
The LeEco Le Pro 3 will be available in four colors: force gold, rose gold, silver and grey.
2. The LeEco Le Pro 3 features the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 821
As rumors had suggested, the LeEco Le Pro 3 will be the second smartphone launched on the market to sport the latest Qualcomm Snapradon 821 (only second to the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe). The blazing fast Qualcomm CPU will be clocked at 2.35Ghz, while the Adreno 530 GPU will be running at 653MHz.
3. LeEco Le Pro 3’s cameras
On the front we find an 8MP f/2.2 camera with 1.4μm big pixels (good for low-light situations) and a 76.5° wide view angle.
4. LeEco’s hidden logo
5. LeEco’s second flagship in a year?
Back in April 2016 LeEco launched the Le Max 2 which boasted a Snapdragon 820, albeit it had a bigger 5.7″ screen, that device is not much different from the Le Pro 3 LeEco have announced yesterday. So, why this need to release something? Is it to gain the customers’ good attentions back after the LeEco Le Max 2’s “fiasco”?
6. Le Pro 3’s battery and fast charging.
Gizchina News of the week
LeEco’s Le Pro 3 packs a massive 4070mAh in a thickness of just 7.5mm, that’s pretty amazing if we consider that other devices with similar battery capacity don’t get below 7.9mm (i.e. Huawei Mate 8). Le Pro 3’s battery also features 24W Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and it can charge up to 50% in half an hour.
7. No 3.5mm headphone jack.
Just like the handsets they launched back in April, also the LeEco Le Pro 3 doesn’t sport a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead it’ll support CDLA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio coupled with Dolby Atmos to give you the best quality audio through the USB Type-C port at the bottom.
8. Storage sizes and special editions.
This bit will be a bit confusing, the LeEco Le Pro 3 comes in two “normal” versions and two Zhang Yimou special editions.
Normal versions:
- 4GB of RAM + 32GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0);
- 6GB of RAM + 64GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0);
Special editions:
- 4GB of RAM + 64GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0);
- 6GB of RAM + 128GB of internal storage (UFS 2.0);
The Zhang Yimou special editions will differ from the “normal” edition in the presence of a image of the movie ‘The Great Wall’ with Matt Damon on the back of the device (picture above). All the versions lack a Micro SD slot.
9. Connectivity
LeEco Le Pro 3 supports dual-SIM dual standby 4G+ networks with a maximum download speed of 600Mbps, the dual-band dual-antenna MIMO Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) connection can instead get to up to 866Mbps. Other than that we find NFC, GPS and bluetooth 4.2.
As for the network bands supported it’s as follows:
2G: GSM: 2/3/5/8; CDMA: BC0/BC1
3G: WCDMA: B1/2/4/5/8 TD-SCDMA: B34/39; EVDO:BC0/BC1
4G: FDD-LTE: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20
TDD-LTE:38/39/40/41
10. Prices and availability
The LeEco Le Pro 3 will cost 1,799 Yuan ($269) in the 4GB + 32GB configuration and 1,999 Yuan ($299) in the 6GB + 64GB variant. The special editions will be 2499 Yuan ($375) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, and 2999 Yuan ($450) for the second version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The LeEco Le Pro 3 can already be pre-ordered and they will shipped to Chinese customers from September 28th.
If those prices are to be believed, we’re talking about an amazing price to specs ratio. It’s true that we can already find Snapdragon 820 equipped devices for just over $250 in this period, but the LeEco Le Pro 3 just beats them all. It has two down-sides, though — no headphone’s jack and no expandable storage.
What do you guys think? Can you live without 3.5mm jack and micro SD expansion?
should’ve worked more on that bazels
Does anybody know of headphones by B&W, Audiotecnica, Sennheiser etc with USB-C? No? OK, thank you.
Yes, I know, but then the whole experience becomes very awkward, with the additional adapter dangling from the phone. At this point, I would skip the phone as music machine and buy a separate Fiio or XDuo.
Yeah, the whole point of removing something and tell people that’s an advantage is always stupid (like Samsung used to say that removing microsd card slot on the s6 was better for the overall speed).
But that’s the direction the market is moving to, whether we like it or not. The “lossless audio” is going to become a standard for whoever wants a better audio, so don’t worry: pricey headphones with type-c plug are on the way once this new technology become more widespread.
Also, yes, using a dedicated machine to do something is always better than using the phone. But having everything in one machine is the whole point of the industry nowadays: what’s the point of paying 800+ $ for a smartphone with a good camera when a 200$ camera will always be better?
I’m pretty sure I’m not telling you nothing you didn’t knew already, that’s just for discussing!
Yes, right. But there’s also convenience factor: I’m having the smartphone always with me, so taking pictures is more likely to happen with my smartphone than with a dedicated camera (image quality aside).
The same is true for the music: If I can download OGG/FLAC directly from Bandcamp, I’d like to be able to listen to it right away without copying it into a separate device (sound quality aside).
I can understand the move by Apple – which always was a closed garden, with as few outputs as possible. “Buy a new Apple headphone”, anyway. But for LeEco giving away the convenience of a 3.5 mm jack just for design’s sake I don’t understand.
Now it’s only 7 mm thick. So what? Next year they make it 5 mm and we have to buy an external screen?
Nice discussion, btw 🙂
Yeah, apple makes everything for the money, but for whatever reason they set a standard for the the whole industry… Sadly!
And, here it comes leeco: I don’t think they removed 3.5 jack for a thickness reason, I think they did so they can say “we did it before apple”… I know it’s stupid, but that’s how marketing goes: they can advertise all of those stupid things about lossless audio and no one can say “you copied apple”. Moreover, it makes sense since they put a lot of effort in the audio department!
I’ve only now read the LeEco statement about their reasoning:
http://forum.le.com/us/index.php?threads/the-magic-is-in-the-details.565/
So, the decoder is taken away from the phone and from now on – *each and every headphone/earplug has to have its own digital-analog decoder*.
I wonder if next time they throw out the GPS/GLONASS sensor, the WiFi radio, or whatever based on the same reasoning.
The whole move doesn’t make sense from the user perspective. You’re right: it can be understood only from the PR department’s point of view.
Lossless audio won’t become a standard as it moves the DAC out of the phone. Apple did it so it’ll become a new standard ? I don’t think so. They’re just cutting expenses and making it look like a technological revolution when that’s just a fraud.
I’m sure every brand is gonna sell Type C headphones but their jewels will still be jack connected.
I don’t think 3.5 jack will be totally replaced anytime soon, but at some point lossless audio will go just along with it: after all, lossless audio is a nice feature for whoever works with sound, and then it comes posers trying to imitate them… I mean, “beats by dre” had a lot of success even thought everyone who tryed it say it’s overrated at the very least.
About apple: yes, absolutely! They gives you less and then marketing makes its magic, convincing millions of people it’s a big advantage… Totally stupid! But we can’t deny they’re blindly followed by all of the market, and their mistakes become standard for apparently no reason! That’s why I fear that this one too will become a new standard even thought it’s just as stupid as sealed batteries and lack of microsd… We kind of got used to the latter, don’t know if we won’t got used to type-c music too…
