Xiaomi announced the awaited Xiaomi Mi 5s today, i.e., on the 27th of September. It’s their first phone with the new Snapdragon 821 SoC, and an upgrade over the Mi 5 that came early in 2016. It came alongside the dual-rear camera enabled Mi 5s Plus. So let’s take a look at the full Xiaomi Mi 5s specifications.

The starting 64GB ROM/3GB RAM version is 1,999 yuan or $300, while the 128GB ROM/4GB RAM version of the Mi 5s will sell for 2,299 yuan or $345 in China. It’ll come in four colours: Silver, Gray, Gold and Rose Gold.

Good price, great camera samples. Hope its really that good. However, minimum ram should have been 4gb.
when are they gonna fire this barra guy and his stupid no-card slot policy? when everyone stopped buying their crippled “flagships”?
He might be deserved firing with dissappointing global expansion but he isn’t responsible for this.
It isn’t purely a technical choice either as Xiaomi explained once upon a time IMO. Their profit margins are thin, and they make more money with larger storage models. Lack of SD slot for forcing people to buy more expensive models.
You can’t blame them for trying this. Their main flagship competitors at same price range like LeEco, ZUK, OnePlus and 360 Mobile also doesn’t provide expandable storage as well I know.
Now internal storage came to a satisfactory level, but they did a similar thing with RAM.
I guess the problem with card slots is because people would insist in putting cheap Class 4 cards in their phones and would start to complain why their high-end phones were lagging to take pictures or record video in the card, since it’s hitting a bandwidth cap.
It doesn’t has to do anything with Hugo barra… Card slot is never available in any Mi series phones since Mi1……(don’t get confused with redmi series)
There not going to fire him because an SD card isn’t big deal to the millions of people who buy Xiaomi phones. And Xiaomi has been heavily pushing it’s cloud services the past few years. They might fire him because of his failed bid to enter his home country of Brazil, which cost Xiaomi millions, though.
it’s big deal enough that every mi iteration they saw drop. mi5 was especially hit with the cracker gate lol.
oh well, i’ve had enough with miui bloat anyway lol.
It’s big enough deal to you because it is something you deeply care about, but to many people, an SD card is simply an add-on that is nice to have but not a necessity.
Most of your comments about a phone have to do with SD card, It’s fair to say that is a top concern to you.

It doesn’t hit my nerve at all. The opposite actually I find it quite hilarious how you seem to think SD card is the most important thing in a phone. When a new phone releases without one you usually make a hilarious statement such as “X company is going to fail because they refuse to use SD cards”. Quite comical that you think SD card is a reason a phone will fail.
You find it hilarious enough to comment on it every single time lol. It’s quite comical that you think it’s not affecting sales when the data says otherwise at least in the sales part lol.
Neither you or I know for absolute that it doesn’t affecting sales. It can go both way. I personally think that your idea is the comical one lol.
So you have data that specifically shows sales being linked to SD cards? Why don’t you share this for all of us.
Do you? Or rather, do you even read what I said? The only data YOU AND I have are where Xiaomi is losing sales and getting beaten by Huawei and the likes.
Incidentally, those companies also have what Xiaomi don’t. Is it a coincidence? Who knows. NEITHER you nor I can absolutely be certain of the causality but the data is there.

He is from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Brazil as I am sure you know has one of the largest emerging smartphone markets in the world, so it was a good idea in theory to enter that country. The problem is the complicated tax codes for imported goods.
Its a funny thing here, if they had push a Redmi Note 3 Pro for $400~$450 here people would buy it, and say that was a big deal. Because other OEMs pushes midrangers at $500~600 (Lenovo Moto G4 Plus)

I live in Brazil and I pay something around 50% more in tax in all my imported devices, specially phones.
I don’t think they will fire him because of Brazil. I was listening to a podcast a while back and Brazil and they were saying that Brazil is a very tough but to crack
It’s incredibly tough to crack because Brazil has some of the most confusing tax law in the world for international companies. This is something Xiaomi should have known going in.
I don’t think they would fire him either though because he has become the face of the company. He is Xiaomi’s version of Steve Jobbs. But I could see him being on a much shorter leash after Brazil.
I’m from Brazil and was one of the first to buy the PowerBank from Mi over here (sold out REALLY quick), and they probably left because our country is basically a tax hell where you can’t simply have a competitive price while having a quality product.
Our government doesn’t even try to help small or large companies entering or starting either, but rather put even more complications in their ways..
That’s probably why Xiaomi couldn’t enter our market that well… :/
Yea that taxes were too high for Xiaomi, the Brazilian tax code is the most complicated in the world.

I have read some comments around where people critisize the design of the MI5S pointing that it looks cheap. SD821 is just an incremental upgrade to the SD820. What would you suggest to me?
