Xiaomi has scheduled an event at the Beijing University’s Gymnasium on October 25th, where the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will be launched. They have also announced Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (Chiu Wai) will be hosting the event. I’m quite surprised that Xiaomi is willing to hire such a huge Asian celebrity to host their event, but then again, Xiaomi is no longer ‘just’ a startup but a major player in the Chinese… and even global market.
The Mi Note 2 was expected to launch at various occasions throughout this year with the latest one being September 14th, and just as we thought the launch was put off until 2017, CEO Lei Jun mentioned that the Mi Note 2 will have a surprise when it launches. All should be revealed this October 25th.
Gizchina News of the week
There has been much speculation about what this Mi Note sucessor will look like and what specifications it will contain. Much information has been leaked on Weibo and the pictures below show a phone with almost no bezels at all. The screens run from edge to edge leaving no bottom or top chin and very thin side bezels as well. Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specifications have leaked too, keep reading to know about those.
Adding credibility to the leaks is the phone apparently running MIUI as well. This is something akin to Sony’s C5 Ultra or Dell’s Venue 8 7000, both devices with extremely small bezels. If these rumours are true, it will be interesting to see how Xiaomi implements palm rejection as that is extremely important in a bezel-less device.
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Specifications (Rumoured)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC
- 6GB RAM
- 64/128GB Storage
- 3600mAh Battery
- CNY 2,499/2,799
Read on many different blogs that it’s gonna be more pricey this time around.
That CNY 2499-2799 range seems fit for Mi5S Plus, not for Mi Note 2.
I would love to see something like this get released… but like concept cars and such, they almost always settle for the less-exciting solution eventually…
*almost* always…
Its obviously fake, the real thing will have bezels and a thick black border just like all Xiaomi phones.
Sounds reasonable enough,
Who today needs a front facing camera, phone speaker, any front light sensor, or even a front facing speaker,
well done Xiaomi!
Global player my a**.
Who cares if there are black borders on a fuckin phone when Tony Leung is leading the party ! Damn that’s grand. Too bad they didn’t have sufficient budget to book Chow Yun Fat too.
It seems they have filled the gap, selling a well built Mi5S with a powerful camera for a nice price when their previous flagships where weakly built and unable to compete on the camera part.
Now, if they can put a 100% screen/body ratio phone into mass production, why the hate ?
lol never, fake xiaomi only release iphone looking phones, I predict a nice big black bezel
