Xiaomi has scheduled an event at the Beijing University’s Gymnasium on October 25th, where the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will be launched. They have also announced Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (Chiu Wai) will be hosting the event. I’m quite surprised that Xiaomi is willing to hire such a huge Asian celebrity to host their event, but then again, Xiaomi is no longer ‘just’ a startup but a major player in the Chinese… and even global market.
The Mi Note 2 was expected to launch at various occasions throughout this year with the latest one being September 14th, and just as we thought the launch was put off until 2017, CEO Lei Jun mentioned that the Mi Note 2 will have a surprise when it launches. All should be revealed this October 25th.
Gizchina News of the week
There has been much speculation about what this Mi Note sucessor will look like and what specifications it will contain. Much information has been leaked on Weibo and the pictures below show a phone with almost no bezels at all. The screens run from edge to edge leaving no bottom or top chin and very thin side bezels as well. Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specifications have leaked too, keep reading to know about those.
Adding credibility to the leaks is the phone apparently running MIUI as well. This is something akin to Sony’s C5 Ultra or Dell’s Venue 8 7000, both devices with extremely small bezels. If these rumours are true, it will be interesting to see how Xiaomi implements palm rejection as that is extremely important in a bezel-less device.
