Launched: Xiaomi Mi Mix with bezel-less design, 91.3% screen-to-body ratio

Looks like the dual edge-less design on the freshly released Mi Note 2 isn’t enough for Xiaomi. Indeed the launch of the new flagship was accompanied by the announcement of another smartphone, this one sports a breathtaking three curved edges design and a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio; they call it the Xiaomi Mi Mix. Let’s check out the Xiaomi Mi Mix specifications!

Xiaomi Mi Mix Specifications

  • 6.4-inch 17:9 2040 x 1080p display with edgeless design, ultra-high 91.3% screen-to-body ratio
  • 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 SoC
  • 4GB and 6GB RAM variants
  • 128GB and 256GB UFS 2.0 ROM variants
  • 16MP PDAF rear camera
  • 5MP front camera
  • 4400mAh battery, Quick Charge 3.0
  • NFC
  • Full ceramic body, black color only
  • MIUI 8
  • Dimensions: 158.9 x 81.9 x 7.9 mm
  • Weight: 209 g

Xiaomi Mi Mix Specifications

The Mi Mix is part of the bigger 6.44-inch sized lineup just like the Xiami Mi Max. The phone comes with a full ceramic body and minimalist design, developed with the world’s famous designer Philippe Stack.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix doesn’t feature any physical earpiece speaker or proximity sensor, so how are we going to make calls? Well, Xiaomi and their partners found a way to use piezolecetric ceramic acoustic technology, with which a ceramic drive unit converts electrical signals into mechanical energy, thus producing sound.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix also features an ultrasonic proximity sensor behind the 6.4″ 2040×1080 display, to fill the lack of a traditional infrared sensor above the screen.

Xiaomi says the 91.3% screen-to-body ratio innovative design is possible due to the 50% smaller camera module on the front of the device, which is now located at the bottom right corner. The phone’s round-edged display also features a custom 17:9 aspect that they say will be better for content viewing.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix will be powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at up to 2.35GHz and fueled by a massive 4400mAh capacity battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0.

Pricing and availability

The handset comes in two configurations, the cheaper packs 4GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage and will retail for 3499RMB ($516); the more premium one called “18K” sports 6GB of RAM, 256GB of fast internal storage, 18-karat gold rims around the rear camera and fingerprint sensor (photo below) and will cost 3999 yuan ($589).

We’re still not exactly sure whether this smartphone is a concept or a real product, because they call it “concept” on their website but then say it’ll go on sale starting November 4th in China. Stay tuned to find out with us!

HOW THE HELL IS A CONCEPT PHONE UP FOR SALE !?

    • October 25, 2016

It’s Xiaomi, and I for one am extremely excited. It’s larger than the Galaxy Note 7 but the screen size is almost an inch larger. If Xiaomi does it right, this phone is going to be on fire.

This looks not that different from my AQUOS, except maybe a slightly smaller bezel and a vastly larger former factor (i.e., finger gymnastics required). The only difference is this is still in concept stage for Xiaomi, whereas the Sharp has been my daily driver for almost a year. Honestly, after the first week the novelty effect wore off and now I don’t even notice the bezel-less design anymore (the only times I’m reminded of it are when I get the occasional stares on the train).

Dear Xiaomi, push harder and make a phone with 100% screen. Hint: OLED displays are highly transparent and thus the front camera can be behind the display and moreover, the display can serve then as camera filter. I give you Xiaomi patent rights for this idea provided you bring such bezeless phone with 6″ display to the market.

OK… So Xiaomi really did it. That’s a great news, and surely something i wanna buy, just to see as many iPhone’s owners as possible crying for having paid soooo much money for a thing of the past.

But… I hope Xiaomi did their homework on build quality ’cause nobody wanna buy a beautiful phone that breaks on first impact, and with a screen so close to the edge, you better have a very, very efficient design to absorb the shock before it breaks the screen.

This company Xiaomi is marvelous. I bought Xiaomi’s Note 4 from Tinydeal. Their craftsmanship is worth noting. Where lies Apple’s design? My friend’s A|pple cracked from the middle on fall. Even Elephone is doing marvel with design. There is Infocus, Coolpad, Le, in India. There are no reason to buy such a costly phone like Apple. I am not a fanboy of Apple,Samsung,Lg,Sony. I can only say that the Chinese Companies like Xiaomi, Coolpad, Le and others have brought beautiful mobile phones to the hands of the poorest of the poor. Though Infocus is an American Company but the Chinese Companies have given beautiful toys and mobiles to the poorest of the poor even without the need to take bribe. China’s political ambitions(Imperialism) may not be good but their companies are doing marvel for the world.
