After a bit of a hiatus, Xiaomi gave their Mi Note series a bit of a revamp. For those new here, the Mi Note series from Xiaomi is the lineup of high-end phablets from the company. The new phone is known as the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, let’s take a quick look at the specifications.
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Specifications
According to Xiaomi, here’s what the Mi Note 2 will sport in terms of specifications:
- 5.7-inch 1920 x 1080p flexible OLED display with curved edges
- 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 SoC
- 4GB and 6GB RAM variants
- 64GB and 128GB ROM variants
- 22.56 mega-pixel Sony IMX318 rear camera, with f/2.0, 77º wide-angle lens; 4K video recording and EIS
- 8 mega-pixel front facing camera
- 4070mAh battery
- NFC
- 192kHz / 24-bit Hi-Fi audio decoding support
- Piano Black and Glacier Silver colours
- MIUI 8
- Dimensions: 156.2 x 77.3 x 7.6 mm (6.15 x 3.04 x 0.30 in)
- Weight: 166 g
It turns out that rumours around the flexible display were true. However, unlike what some rumours may have suggested, you will still not be able to bend the display at home. We’re still a few years away from that.
Mi Note 2 Global Edition
Coming back, the Mi Note 2 has a Global variant which supports a total of 22 LTE bands. The Mi Note 2 definitely has a very Samsung Galaxy Note7 aura about it, but Xiaomi will hope it doesn’t have the same fate.
Here’s the list of the 37 bands it’ll support:
- GSM: 2/3/5/8
- CDMA 1X: 0/1/10/15
- WCDMA: 1/2/4/5/8
- TD-SCDMA: 34/39
- LTE-TDD: 38/39/40/41
- LTE-FDD: 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/29/30
There’s no clarity on what this exactly means; the Global Edition is probably what’ll debut in the few other markets where Xiaomi directly operates besides China. Other than that, you can expect hoarders and resellers to have plenty stock of the Mi Note 2 Global Edition.
Mi Note 2 Pricing
The Mi Note 2 will have a total of three variants; 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB and the ‘Global’ variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM, but with added radio support.
Gizchina News of the week
- 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM: 2799 yuan ($413)
- 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM: 3299 yuan ($486)
- Global 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM: 3499 yuan ($516)
Looks nice, just not sure about the 22.5MP resolution on such a small sensor, low-light photos will be really noisy.
5.7 1080p is gonna be awful. No microSD, large upper and lower bezels and home button make it kinda crappy. Ofc curved at this price will sell.
But to hell with this model, the MIX is the real star today http://www.mi.com/mix/
6.44 inch 2040×1080 so aspect ratio is 17.9 , SD821 , 4GB RAM, 128GB NAND , 16MP and 5MP cam , 4400mAh , 158.8 mm x 81.9 mm x 7.9 mm ,209g, ceramic back
Priced at 3499CNY (516.6$) and a 6GB+256GB version at 3999CNY (590$) – this version also has the rings around the cam and fingerprint sensor plated with 18k gold

Looks like it’s a 1440p panel. Updated, there still seems to be a little confusion though.
The Mi Note 2 is 1080p , here’s the link to specs http://www.mi.com/minote2/specs/
But the MIX is the phone of the year, would buy one if it had microSD even if it’s maybe lacking in cam perf and the price is not great.
thats the basis edition if im right the 6gb+128gb both versions come with 2K LG OLED Display…
hands on pics with the MIX,in case you write about it and want to include some such pics http://news.mydrivers.com/1/504/504606.htm
actually both variants have 6gb of RAM….and the display of the Mi Note 2 is OLED …you cant curve LCDs…I wish the Mix has support for Google’s Daydream…no one made mention of that…and hopefully, it has a good camera..they failed to make emphasis on it….we dont even know who supplied them the sensor…so i’m guessing it’s underwhelming…..i hope reviews say otherwise only then can i throw my money at it..
You seem a bit confused on multiple points.
Both phones have 4GB and 6GB versions so not sure what you are contesting.
Yes the Note 2 is OLED and that means Pentile – as in they fake the pixels out of only 2 subpixels and the resolution is far bellow the one advertised – the blue and red resolution is just 540p and only green is 1080p. Furthermore, due to the size and arrangement of the pixels, at that screen size it will look grainy and the “screen door effect” will be very noticeable. Even a 100$ phone doesn’t deserve this lack of quality. In high end it’s absolutely unacceptable to offer a 720p experience. Maybe this helps you understand how poor is their choice of going 1080p http://www.anandtech.com/show/10411/the-oneplus-3-review/4
i was actually referring to the Mi Mix when i said both variants have 6gb of RAM not the Note 2..also, i didnt realize the situation of the display on the Note 2…thanks for clarifying that…i know pentile to be awful…how exactly do they intend to market VR then? i’m actually real disappointed now cause i actually did set my mind on getting it…i guess i’ll just go with the Mi Mix then…
The cheaper MIX has 4GB RAM , check the specs in the official link i posted in my first comment.
Pretty much all OLED displays in phones today are Pentile and with 1440p at least the res is high enough to make it passable. OLED is preferred for VR because of response time.
The back cam in the MIX is Omnivision OV16880 (1/3.06 with 1.0um pixels) so a sensor aimed at mid range. The front is OV5675.
Xiaomi never fails to disappoint with the cameras they choose for their supposed flagships…..every thing else about the Mix is top notch just for them to now use a midrange sensor…no wonder they never laid emphasis on it. Anyway, i will wait for reviews and see how well the sensor stands against the competition. Do you by any chance know any device that currently feature those Omnivision units?
I see the official page says differently, however, I saw a snapshot that was taken during the event that showed both devices with 6gb of RAM…not sure where exactly but i will look it up and attach it to the comments….
Hope the Camera quality is up there with the S7 Edge, otherwise…just another big phone.
exactly…that’s one of my biggest concern…Xiaomi makes great devices but the camera reviews always seem to disappoint…i dont want to have to hold back this time around..
Looks like an excellent phone overall, I might pick one up in 6 months when the price of the international model is reasonable. Hopefully “international model” is a growing trend at Xiaomi and the Mi6 will follow.
I could halfway maybe believe that the domestic price might have come down a couple hundred RMB but no way in hell will you be getting it outside of China for even anywhere approaching $350 in 6 months.
MI5s is allready selling for China price (~$345) with coupon in a couple of shops (geek and bang I think) 1 month after launch.
So why not the same with Note 2? Competition is fierce for those resellers. If someone does not offer price cuts he will loose sales plain and simple.
you sure about that? how do you get the coupons?
Thanks. I think I will either get OnePlus 3 or the rumoured 3T for Christmas. These Xiaomi phones do look awesome though, so will have to get one in the future.
The only features that will warrant my upgrade to a new device right now is Daydream support and a freaking good camera (cause i currently own the Nextbit Robin)…i hope the camera reviews of the Mi Note 2 turns out great then i will be all over it..

There’s the Mi MIX with full ceramic body.

Yes we just got sent some by Xiaomi, expect a write up soon
Try to check if it’s OLED or LCD if you can
Looks like it’s LCD. The press release doesn’t mention OLED anywhere besides the spec sheet of the Note 2.
That’s good, thanks.

Like the idea of ditching the top bezel, but the size… it’s good for NBA players, not regular people:) Look at the real pictures, the guy can barely hold it.
Other sites are reporting it as a 1440p panel. But unless you are into VR, 1080p on a 5.7 display is fine.
Give me a phone like this in 5.5″ or 5″ and we got a winner.
look who came outta their cave !
It’s just 4mm ( 0.157 inch) wider than an iphone 7 Plus or 1.3mm wider than Mate 8 and that’s not much at all.
The aspect ratio is 17: 9 and that increases the diagonal but the size of the phone is 4 mm wider than iphone 7 Plus same height and a bit thicker.
People only live in caves in Pakistad, sorry to be the one to tell you that.
lol
Anyway, how do you like the MIX?
would suck though, was hoping it to be the note 7 panel, that thing was gorgeous, R.I.P
Haha, yasir.

it’s 1080 for sure….
do you have any details on the camera sensor? they failed to make mention of it

So?
If it’s like iPhone plus, that’s means that it’s not too big!?
Maybe for yo, for me it is.
If it has smaller display, it should be smaller phone, and many of us still prefer phones, not phablets.
The cheaper MIX has 4GB RAM , check the specs in the official link i posted in my first comment.
Pretty much all OLED displays in phones today are Pentile and with 1440p at least the res is high enough to make it passable. OLED is preferred for VR because of response time but it would be nice if folks start to use RGB OLED not Pentile.

Pakistan*
btw … LAME af JOKE! you got us mixed up with Afghanistan , that’s in the hood’ bro , where Bin Laden hid in caves when his BFFs , US bombed the country to hell 😀
also , i was quite active … but you were MIA for like .. a month ?! guess you got a GF or something :p
MIX is good , but a bit overpriced being a concept phone. i don’t even get why sell a CONCEPT phone … isn’t a concept like a demo or something , destined to be improved upon first?
nothing about mix sensor camera ?

This is the Game changer we are waiting to fight Apple.
If the the full bands are accurate this is fantastic.
Please add auto start and auto switch off, by day and weekly.
Xiaomi, please remember, for this price range you need to give minimum 2 year up-grade for future Android versions.

price will be around $350 in 6 months
What month roughly will the Mi6 debut ?
If it follows the Mi5 it will be around February/March during MWC.
Thanks. I think I will either get OnePlus 3 or the rumoured 3T for Christmas. These Xiaomi phones do look awesome though, so will have to get one in the future.

192khz sound , camera rear imx318 3-axis EIS , front imx268 selfie auto-focus , amoled , 4070mah ….
what?
You skipped the “for me” part? Edge sides are big cons, amoled is meh (I’d rather ips), front camera is nothing I’m interested into, camera sensor has more mpxs but we don’t know yet how it is, the only thing is it misses ois and it’s a single sensor (I’m starting to like the little feature on dual camera, although it grants no better quality), 200 more mah on the battery hardly make a miracle (although i always want bigger batteries)… Again, I’ll repeat it for the third time in a row: FOR ME, only according to my personal tastes
the difference that everyone has camera, battery and display, but mi 2 note have hardware quality.
And mi5 doesn’t???
SGS7 doesn’t?
IPhone also???
the comparison was between mi5s plus and mi note 2 , 🙁
nothing about mix sensor camera ?
that’s nice, for those who are crying that cheap flagsips are too cheap they launch more expensive device with rather unuseful perks
I like this, everybody is happy while mi5/s dont look obsolete
We definitely need alteast quad cams!!!
So… my Mi Note Pro will be the only Xiaomi with a 2K screen? Pentile FHD its a big downgrade from 2K IPS from the Mi Note Pro.
it’s actually an AMOLED display at an FHD resolution…let’s see what the Pro version of the Pro 2 will offer
Its an LG OLED, not Samsung AMOLED, and Pentile its the Pixel Matrix, the Pixels look weird with OLED/AMOLED Displays because of the Pentile Matrix. In RGB, like in IPS LCD displays the pixels look better and sharper. I can see the Pentile matrix very easily, and i dont like it very much. Not all pixels have the same size, and makes bad things to text. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/20ee482e18e2364cf701dc87d1c049c7625359363bd0c64813aebab5451430cc.jpghttps://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a706a0a7ebd82802b142ec7d9114d0a92b4a8851292a16660c149994698211d0.jpghttps://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/82dd6f1b98423a4081b763460e28c6258488c991bf2e8287b2dd44023d889ad9.jpg
