Bezel-less Mi Mix sold out in 10 seconds (plus how you can get one)

Today was the first time that the bezel-less Mi Mix went on sale in China. Unsurprisingly, the phone sold out in 10 seconds!

The Mi Mix was initially announced alongside the Mi Note 2 a few days back. It was quite an unexpected launch, and as it turns out, the Mi Mix completely stole the show and limelight from the Mi Note 2.

It is understood that Xiaomi aren’t making a lot of Mi Mix units for now. While it’s probably the best-looking phone in the market as of now, it isn’t the most practical purchase. But clearly, that hasn’t stopped people that can buy the phone from buying it.

The Mi Mix comes with the Snapdragon 821 processor along with other high-end internals. You can find the full Xiaomi Mi Mix specifications here.

  It’s not the toughest device to break, and the lack of bezels on the side means it doesnt have apps/OS optimised for it yet.

    But there are no proper reviews yet so we don’t know how tough it is (e.g. will it break in back pocket). In first hands on videos it looked OK from OS point of view to me

        I would still buy it if I had spare cash. I don’t tend to drop my phones.

        I was just stating that we do have a pretty good idea of how tough it is. The answer being not tough at all and therefore unpractical.

Xiaomi should’ve gone all the way up to the flagships line: dual nice camera setup (because it’s trendy!), 256 GB SSD like iPhone 7 Plus, and maybe a software upgrade with better optimization (because they still can’t offer convergence, or something similar to Remix OS when docked -connected to display + keyboard + mouse). Then, ask for 5,000-7,000 yuan.

Is the Mi Mix worth buying?
I happened to be in China right now and thinking of buying a new phone (I broke the screen of my Mi4, haven’t replaced yet). Mi Mix looks absolutely stunning, but being the first of its kind I’m afraid it might have some flaws. What do u guys think? If you had an opportunity to buy one, would you?

Why is it not practical? A pocketable tablet is first and very practical.
All previews show accidental touches go be no more problem than most phones (palm rejection).
It’s easy to break, but so are more phones with “3D glass” where the front glass basically makes a bulge…
I’M still unclear how is it having more screen estate on the same footprint impractical. If anything that is the first true phablet. I.e. a phone sized tablet.
The only impractical thing is that I’m not getting it (very rare)

  Maybe its that the footprint is so small that you can’t even pit s case on it. Also not only will the screen break but the hard to manufacture ceramic body will break as well making this thing very hard to repair and replace. Honestly, I’d rather have a phone with bezels that can be dropped.

    You can put a case on. What are you talking about. Phones with limited bezels are being manufactured for ages now. They only added the top bezel to the mix (only side bezels used to be minimized).
    It hardly affects reliability, it only makes it easier to carry…

      And that top bezel is a major issue with the types of cases you can use. What is the case going to be wrapped around? Even when a case is applied, how much pressure will it be able to withstand? Also, the phone has already been dropped with the result being that not only the screen being destroyed but there is a major crack in the hard to produce ceramic back. If you drop this phone there is no repairing. Only another phone. This is a very delicate, expensive item.

        Most modern phones when dropped without a case crack.
        The case offered by Xiaomi seems just fine, they obviously took in accordance the new challenges, they would not offer a case of their own otherwise.
        Having said that I have never dropped any of my phones so that is a non-issue to me. To those that is they can “wear it” a case, rendering the phone bigger of course but being able to live with one less anxiety.

        I already know that but when someone dropped this phone, the ceramic cracked. I drop my Redmi note 2 quite a bit. Only had to replace the screen once. This isn’t even an option for me because rpleacing the screen is one thing. Having to replace the ceramic frame that’s difficult to make that forces xiaomi to manufacture this in low numbers because it cracked after a single fall is another.
