OnePlus 3T official: Same design, bigger camera, battery and storage!

We’ve been hearing a lot about the OnePlus 3T in the past weeks and now it’s finally official. Let’s have a look a the company’s latest flagship smartphone… er, the latest flagship killer, a phone that keeps the same design as the OnePlus 3 but features some interesting upgrades!

Here’s how the OnePlus 3T differs from the OnePlus 3.

According to OnePlus, here’s what the OnePlus 3T will come with:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 at 2.35GHz with Adreno 530
6GB RAM
64GB / 128GB ROM
Camera: Primary 16.0MP with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, LED flash
Camera: Secondary 16.0MP camera
Battery: 3400mAh
Oxygen OS based on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Weight: 158g
Dimensions: 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm
Dual nano-SIM slot

OnePlus 3T Features

Let’s begin with aesthetics. The OnePlus 3T will be available in two colors: Gunmetal and Soft Gold. Inside we find the best mobile CPU on the Android side, i.e., the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 clocked at 2.35GHz. A nice upgrade from the SD 820 present on the OnePlus 3, and also the USP of the OnePlus 3T.

The phone still features a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 4, It’ll sport 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage as well as a 128GB variant (not available earlier).

The rear camera stays the same 16MP IMX298 sensor shooter with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and 4K video recording capability. Meanwhile the front-facing camera has been upgraded to a 16MP Samsung 3P8SP with PDAF and f/2.0 aperture, this one will only be able to record 1080p @30fps… perhaps keeping in mind the growing selfie junta.

The OnePlus 3T will be fueled by a bigger 3400mAh capacity battery (3000mAh on the OnePlus 3) featuring Dash Charge fast charging technology, which they say it allows to charge a “day’s power in half an hour”.

The phone measures 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm and weighs 158 grams, it will support Cat.6 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, GLONASS, NFC.

The fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 3T is integrated in the front home button and it comes with Oxygen OS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Android N has been officially announced to arrive later this year.

The OnePlus 3T will be on sale for $439 for the 64GB version and $479 for the 128GB, starting November 22nd.

So that was it, a slightly upgraded OnePlus 3, with better front facing camera and bigger battery to please power users. Not a whole lot more than that!

That doesn’t impress me much, at least not for 40€ premium on regular OP3.
I mean, it’s ok to have more expensive device with bigger storage, but almost 500€ for a One+ device!?
No thanks.
Next what we can expect from them is that One+4 (or 5 if they skip 4 numeracy, because of chunese superstition) is that it cost as much as iPhone.
Hope that regular one will still be available, or even it price would go lower, since competition from Zuk, Xioami, LeEco and many others with same specifications, can be found even for half of it’s price.

The bigger battery is eaten out by the higher clocked soc, but most of all: it’s the same body as op3, so they purposefully put a smaller battery in the op3 so the following model could sound like an update… They’re saying without a care in the world “yep, we fooled you!”.
All in all, 40 extra euros for more mpx on the front camera. In my book, this is listed under “BS”. They’re raising prices without a real reason behind, next year should we expect 499€? They’re in the price range of “western” flagships after 2 weeks from launch, no wonder op customers are less and less every year…

    If you say this, then I don’t see why someone would spend $100 more to get the Le Pro 3 than a ZUK Z2 ;). The SD820 is no joke, and if you don’t like ZUI you could always use CM13 (CM14.1 based on Android 7.1 is already in beta).

      I see many differences instead.
      First of all $80 is not $200.
      Then I was comparing two phones available outside China where people can buy directly from the manufacturer.
      The difference is not the SoC, but the price.
      I actually can understand why people would spend $100 more to get an Axon 7 or a regular OP3 which I consider superior, with a better build and camera.
      On top of that the regular OP3 has an unlocked bootloader and gets CM14.
      But $200? That’s too much in my opinion and I won’t be surprised if this one won’t sell as good as the previous models.
      We’ll talk again on few months and we’ll see what happens

  In all fairness, this is a common business practice not just in the smartphone industry (refer to incremental S model updates by a certain company), but the entire tech industry (remember the cheaper Intel Celeron CPUs that were actually the exact same chip as the more expensive parts but with certain flags disabled). Regarding battery tech specifically, it is very possible that they were able to secure a higher density battery at a higher cost, or maybe even the same cost if you chuck it up to advancement in LiPoly manufacturing. Did you see what BMW was able to do with their 2017 i3? Pretty incredible.

I belive storage upgrade os a welcome step. Front camera upgrade is unnecessary. Battery is compensated by higher clockspeed. Over all its a transition. They should have upgraded x model with new hw and battery.

Typing this from my Le Pro 3, no regrets I get to keep my larger battery. I don’t really see the need for 6GB RAM in modern phones.
