After releasing the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, Huawei decided they needed yet another model in the Mate 9 line of devices, that being the Mate 9 Lite. This time however, Huawei conspicuously added the device to the their website without holding any sort of event.
The Huawei Mate 9 Lite is, as the name implies, a mid-range version of the Huawei Mate 9. It comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Kirin 655 octa-core processor, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and a 3340mAh battery.
Gizchina News of the week
The main selling point of the Mate 9 Lite is its camera setup. While the front camera is your typical 8MP affair, the rear features a dual camera setup like the more expensive Mate 9 devices. Granted, it’s been downgraded to a 12MP + 2MP pair, and the Leica branding is gone, but it’s still nice to see.
The main 12 MP sensor has 1.25nm pixels and phase detection autofocus that should work in 0.3 seconds. The secondary unit captures depth information so you can create bokeh effects for your photos.
The device’s dimensions are 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2mm, and its metal body weighs in at 162g. The Mate 9 Lite comes with a rear fingerprint sensor, and runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It’ll come in the colors gold, gray and silver. Despite this, the prices have yet to be announced, so stay tuned for more news.
