iQIYI MiGe M9 launched: YouTube of China makes half decent device

The Chinese smartphone market tends to be very saturated these days. Most of the largest Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Meizu and Oppo are now considered mainstream, and even smaller ones like Vivo and LeEco are slowly becoming bigger deals.

With that, it’s nice to see there are still companies that are willing to make new devices and enter the competitive Chinese smartphone market. Enter the iQIYI MiGe M9, a new device from what is basically the Youtube of China.

iQIYI MiGe M9: Features

In terms of design, the M9 follows the schools of Vivo and Oppo, which in turn follow the Apple’s design philosophies perhaps a bit too much. As a result, the M9 is yet another generic look device in the ocean of iPhone-looking devices.

Unfortunately, the similarities don’t end there. The M9 comes in two colors, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold. The display on the X9 is a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS screen. Powering the MiGe M9 is the now less popular but still plenty powerful Snapdragon 820, complete with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The MiGe M9 continues to sit in the middle with its 16-megapixel rear facing camera, as well as a front facing 8MP camera. Fueling the device is a 3100mAh battery, which is pretty much the industry standard now.

The phone’s thinness is one of its main selling points at 6.9mm, though it’s not really all that impressive. It will support 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. The M9 is also touted to support ‘HIFI audio’, though we’re not sure if that means a separate DAC or just some software functions.

The device is normally priced at CNY1599 which roughly translates to $232. This isn’t really all too bad of a price considering the specifications, but there’s more. Those who purchase the iQiyi MiGe M9 at its listed price of CNY 2699 (about $390) get added benefits usually reserved for iQIYI’s VIP subscribers, though we can’t see this being a factor for people outside of China.

If you’re at all interested in purchasing iQIYI’s new device, it’s only available in China with no word as to whether it’ll ever leave. If you’re in China however, you can check out and buy the device right here.
