Xiaomi’s track record with Android updates hasn’t been stellar to say the least. They rarely update the Android versions of their devices, and even when they do it’s hard to notice. This is in part due to MIUI’s heavy customizations.
Thankfully, Xiaomi plans to update their current flagship the Mi5 to Android Nougat fairly soon. The update will ship along with MIUI 8 for the Mi5 and will supposedly improve its battery life and performance.
Gizchina News of the week
With this, we can expect it to be only a matter of time before other Xiaomi devices receive their Nougat updates. Perhaps the upcoming Mi5C and mystery CES Xiaomi device will ship with Nougat? Only time will tell, we suppose.
& how exactly did you get alpha relase? Even this is tied to closed beta & they never did nor they should relase alphas? I am not even really keen for beta, still tons of work to be done on kernel side.
i applied for it and got selected with dozens of others on their forum
to search for bugs and report them
Well it’s not alpha but a early beta. Alpha begins when you menage build to boot & ends when you have fixed at least almost all functional problems so it’s strictly the closest developer’s circle only, closed beta is resolving the rest & tuning it up, open beta server for hunting remaining bugs that are hard to spot & or reproduce & for final performance tuning. I am a bit tired of developmen right now and don’t have enough time for it so I didn’t apply but I will catch up later & do my part at Xda.
Best regards.
