Team MAD are well known for being the team that keep the JiaYu S3 constantly updated. As a result, the JiaYu S3 has managed to have timely updates every time a new Android version comes around. This time, they’ve managed to bring Nougat to the S3, which is shockingly quick.
The update is for the JiaYu S3, S3 Advance, S3 Basic and S3 Pro, all variants of the S3 running thw MTK6752 chipset. It’s a fairly light update at 328MB, and it’s already available to download from their Facebook page.
Gizchina News of the week
We’re honestly quite surprised at the speed and consistency of Team MAD and their updates. The JiaYu S3 is a fairly old device, but it’s still quite up to date. Along with this, Team MAD has also teased Nougat 7.1.1 for the Vernee Thor, so for updates on that, look here.
Incredible! A friend had one of these and I got it up and running on Team-MADs Marshmallow rom I think it was, then she dropped it and smashed the screen 🙁
Was a hell of a phone for the money though and it’s great to see development for it still! 🙂
It’s still one of the best Chinese devices available, really. No gimmicks, no nonsense, just a good, usable device.
I still have this phone after a whole year and is impressive the great support it have got thanks to. MAD
The group is. Looking for devices to. Work in the future, but need companies interested in collaborating with them.
I’m actually using this rom on my Jiayu S3, and it works very well without any flaws. The device still works very smooth.
It was a really good move from Jiayu to get these guys in a team and provide all sources. I hope Jiayu will be back with some really nice phone. Their build quality is quite good. Other companies could get an idea what is possible if they are open to the community. This is the way to go!
Unfortunately Jiayu is dead, there’s only Jiayu.de and Jiayu.es currently, if a new phone comes, should be from them, but currently they lack resources for a good budget device.
I thought it was another article of the “remember this old brand” series.
That would be one of the saddest to do, because Jiayu was one of the best in old school times, to the point that would be shocking to state the truth of its end.
Still have my G3.
I’m actually planning to bring those back soon.
Looking forward to it

It just shows you that most phones theses could be updated to Nougat and run smoothly but the constant greed of the manufacturers shoving new models every three months with only small changes stops updating phones that only a few months old.

Damn… I feel so stupid that I didn’t pay $180 in 2015 to buy a Jiayu S3 and I wasted $180 to buy an ECOO E04 Plus, which is a complete trash, cause it was made by Elephone (sub-brand)… =(
At that time I bought Lenovo K3 Note which is still continuously supported on the software side. 7.1.1 available for it too.

I bought the mlais m52 one year and half ago and the funny fact is I didn’t take the jiayu because there was only android kitkat on it in the beginning and no official update so I took the mlais m52. The mt6752 is really a good processor and I think that the Jiayu has a real 3000battery not like the m52 thus Even now for the owner of Jiayu s3 it’s not necessary to upgrade.
Though buying the m52 allowed me to wait for the Redmi note 3 pro Special Edition (that I own now), but still need to sell my m52 which has sound problems…
Well done for jiayu. Still don’t understand how company with crappy phones like Elephone, Ulefone and Umi are still on the market while Jiayu nearly had to close their business.

I love this phone! JiaYu! Where are you? Please come back!;)
In 2014 this was the best budget phone coming out of China. To still be using it now is just cheap.

GizChina should make a background article about the fall of Jiayu
& THL & freelander…
My S3 Advanced is working perfectly using 7.1 Stable 3, I will update to 7.1.1 Stable 4 really soon 🙂

Had mine since launch and donate to these guys whenever I can. The phone is unstoppable, I’ve broken two screens, cooked a battery and just recently replaced the volume/power flex cable (requires soldering). Nearly two years on and it’s better than new with the latest software, no chinese bloat/malware and extra Team MAD features, the only thing it’s missing is a fingerprint sensor.
Now what decides my next phone is whichever Team MAD say they are supporting!
