Huawei said goodbye to 3rd party chip suppliers long ago, and now they are hoping to push the envelope with the newly leaked Kirin 970.
Huawei has been using Kirin chips for years now, meaning that they don’t have to rely on third party suppliers and more importantly can’t be held ransom for Android support (we’re looking at your Mediatek).
The companies latest flagship also introduced the newest Kirin 960 chipset, and while that might be their jewel in the crown for now, it might not stay at the top of the hill for much longer!
Gizchina News of the week
Chinese sources claim that Huawei is already well into the development of the Kirin 970. This is hardly surprisingly really, but what does come as a shock are the specs for the new CPU.
Sources say that the new Kirin 970 will be built on a TSMC manufacturing process at a foundry in Taiwan. The SoC will be made of 8-cores which will be split between 4 x Cortex A73 and 4 x A53 cores. Clock speed will be up to as much as 3.0Ghz and the 10nm processor is expected to be one of the most efficient on the market.
It is thought that Huawei won’t release the Kirin 970 until the launch of the Mate 10, which could be a lot sooner that we were all expecting! Watch this space.
