Xiaomi has had a bit of bad luck when it comes to their phones exploding. Over the years there have been news reports and even videos of phones bursting in to flames, and just 2 days into 2017 we get another story.
This time it was a Xiaomi Mi4 that exploded in a classroom in China. Full details of the issues haven’t been confirmed but photos of the remains of the ex-flagship would suggest the battery exploded in the phone.
Gizchina News of the week
It’s difficult to know what happened this time around, but previous similar issues were blamed on the use of a non official 3rd party charger causing a power surge while charging. Similar problems have also been reported with Apple iPhones and Samsung phones in the past too.
The Xiaomi Mi4 was launched back in 2014 and was the first Xiaomi to show the companies new direction and featured metal chassis, 5-inch display, Snapdragon 801 and 3GB RAM. Interestingly it is also my least favourite Xiaomi phone of all time.
Wow…
So what happens if you buy any brand (and there are quite a few) of these cheaper Chinese phones and they go wrong (or explode) ?
Do any of the GUARANTEES actually work to the buyers outside of China ?
I suggest you buy a well known brand for a little bit more with a GENUINE worldwide guarantee.
And looking at some of the specifications of a majority of the phones they are not that advanced, but they are cheap….
Beware buy at your own peril !
I piad just $130 for Meizu M2 (Mini). I don’t care about warranty for the price I paid. If something goes wrong with it, I’ll replace it with another cheap Chinese phone. I’ve had it for over a year now with no problems, and hope to get a few more years use out it before upgrading.
I had a Sony ZR “well known” piece of shit phone, last less than a year and problems start, Sony never fixed, a 400USD phone, with that money I can buy a cheaper Xiaomi phone, no, 2 Xiaomi phones and last more than that well known crap
TBH….I’ve had my Mi4 for over two years now. Still going strong. Would’ve been nice to see fireworks this year!! How ironic that in the country that invented gunpowder, I never saw one firework at midnight on new years eve in this Chinese city!!
