Asus Extra! New VivoPC X launched, designed for VR

This magical time of the year is when we see manufacturers unveil stuff back-to-back, and it’s great. Right after the launch of the Asus Chromebook Flip 2, Asus has now brought us the VivoPC X. A compact gaming desktop that’s small yet quite powerful.

Like any good gaming desktop, the VivoPC X features some pretty powerful innards. The rig’s CPU is Intel’s sixth generation core i5 Kaby Lake processor, and there’s also 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and an NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU. Nothing mindblowing, but it’s sufficient for VR gaming.

Of course, the VivoPC X also works fine as a regular desktop with two HDMI ports and a DisplayPort out. Heck, running SteamOS on this thing would make it a pretty good console, seeing how it’s already got the form factor of a gaming console.

Of course, this size and power come at a price, and that price is $799. It’s not too bad a price, though you could build something similar for a lower price. Still, if you’re not looking to spend time towards building a desktop but want one, this isn’t a bad option.
