MGCOOL finally launched the MGCOOL Explorer 4K action camera, which is what they call a GoPro alternative. Obviously it’s really hard to tell how it’ll perform by looking at a spec sheet but what we know for sure is that it costs $49.99 at the pre-order price. Let’s find out more about the camera now!
MGCOOL’s latest Explorer 4K camera will be powered by an Allwinner V3 SoC combined with a 16MP Sony CMOS sensor. It can record 4K videos at 15fps, Full HD videos at 60fps or 720p at 120fps, they all use the H.264 codec.
The action camera can also be controlled via smartphone through the built-in WiFi module (up to 10 meters). The camera can go 98 feet (30 meters) underwater when used with the waterproof case and it supports microSD cards up to 64GB.

Overall it looks like a solid camera, sure 4K isn’t at 30fps or more, but I’d rather use 1080p @60fps anyway. It also costs $49.99, which is about 1/10th the price of a GoPro, so it might be a good first action camera for a beginner.
