Well this is awkward I guess. According to a recent report from Forbes, the LG G6 (we gave you its first official render yesterday by the way), won’t be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC! Instead rumors say that it will use last year’s Snapdragon 821 SoC, just like HTC U Ultra did!
Gizchina News of the week
And the reason for this mishap? It seems that Samsung has already claimed all the available production of the Snapdragon 835 SoC for its upcoming Galaxy S8 model and there are no SoC’s left for the other manufacturers – at least not before April.
In case you didn’t know, Qualcomm has developed the Snapdragon 835 in collaboration with Samsung. This – kind of- entitles Samsung to make sure it won’t run into supply shortages for its next-gen flagship handset, but not without causing problems to other manufacturers like HTC, LG and others.
Samsung still causing issues for others.
Not really: samsung will use exynos chips in its main markets, so it’s totally unbelievable to think it’s going to use that many Qualcomm socs… The thing that really bother me is that rumor about sealed battery: after all they found a neat solution on lg v20, it would be stupid for them to discard that awesome idea just to conform to samsung and apple
I think they are following the trend. SInce quite a number of people are looking at IP certified gadgets they were left with no choice.
But I know that they can figure out a away of bringing a removable battery and still keep it water and dust proof. I personally prefer a removable battery to water-proofing shit.
In the past, Samsung Galaxy S5 has both removable battery / micro sd slot and IP certification.
So I wish LG has both removable battery , sd card slot with IP certication too.
and I also wish Samsung stop causing issues to other brands like keep all stock of newest high end Qualcomm SOC to themselves only.
Well it is Samsung building the chips so I think it hand-twisted QC.
But your point of the Galaxy S5 makes alot of sense and I think this will be brought in by some manufactures in future when people realize that they do not need to upgrade phones each year but cost of replacing battery is too high.
