WhatsApp is the IM app of choice in a number of nations. In its largest market — India — WhatsApp has over 160 million active users, and over a billion worldwide.
The app has come a long way from being a simple text-based IM to include location sharing, file sharing, voice calling and more recently, video calling. The app is now all set to announce live location sharing to group chats.
Gizchina News of the week
What live location sharing will do is allow users to know exactly where their peers are, which could come in handy in cases like route crisis, etc. It might also find use in parents keeping an eye over their adventurous children.
The feature is apparently being tested on beta builds on both Android and iOS. We however haven’t been able to verify this independently (I’ve signed up as a beta tester but see no option for live location sharing).
Yay or nay?
Absolute nay… wtf is wrong with people nowadays… No privacy at all anymore. Turning it off is just a farce…
