Via their social media channels, Meizu has finally confirmed the launch date of a new ‘M’ series phone.
We all knew it was going to come sooner or later, and now the launch date for Meizu’s latest budget handset has been revealed. Announced via their Weibo account in China, Meizu has posted the above image indicating the date of launch and also one of the new phones standout features, fast charging.
Meizu M5S Launch Date
Fast charging isn’t anything new for Meizu phones, but the fact that they are focussing on it might suggest that this latest handset boasts faster charging than previous models.
The big question is what phone will Meizu unveil just after Valentines day? Well it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the launch will be for the Meizu M5S which has been seen in various leaks over the past few weeks.
Gizchina News of the week
The Meizu M5S has been seen in TENAA documents, and even spotted in detailed leaked photographs that even show us what the retail packing of the phone will look like and include.
Meizu M5S Specifications
According to the details that we’ve seen and the leaks the Meizu M5S looks set to launch in 3 guises. The base model phone will sport 2GB RAM and 16GB memory, a mid-ranger will get 3GB RAM and 32GB memory and the top of the tree Meizu M5S will boast 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory.
Each variant of the Meizu M5S will feature a 5.2-inch HD display, octacore MT6753 chipset, 13 mega-pixel main camera, 5 mega-pixel front, 2930mAh battery, fingerprint scanner and fast charging.
Meizu M5 Note
If the Meizu M5S looks pretty solid but you would prefer a slightly larger, FHD display then there is the Maize M5 Note which launched late last year and is easily available online to buy now.
The Meizu M5 Note also features options for RAM and memory but ranging from 3GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB or 4GB + 64GB. The handset also has a larger 4000mAh battery and more powerful Mediatek Helio P10 chipset.
I am a huge fan of Meizu, but I really wish they would limit their product range. This M5S is basically another nothing phone. There have been far too many ‘nothing’ phones added to the range with pretty much the same specs. They need to shake up the processors they use as well. The P10 they used in the Note was really disappointing. They should in my opinion have 4 phones in their range, namely the M series, Note Series, MX Series and a Pro Series. They can use Mediatek chips for the M and Note(Note should use the flagship chip). Then the MX should use a SD mid ranger like the 652 and finally the Pro should use an Exynos or flagship SD chip(like the 820 or 821). There whole range has a sameness to it and there use of chips makes it even worse. The reviewers even give them mediocre reviews because they are confused. Imagine if the Note had an X20 in it and the pro 6 had a SD820 in it, I think the reviews would have been very different. Anyway that’s my opinion…
Couldn’t agree more. Also a fan but they truly are one of the most frustrating and deluded companies out there. In my mind meizu could be a top 5 manufacturer but various bizarre business and R&D decisions keeps them from achieving greatness. As mentioned the mediatek deal is hurting them in my mind as they spam the market with loads of underspeced mediatek crap. As you say they should have a far smaller product line with upper mid and high end chips for their M/Note Series line and qualcomm chips for higher end MX/Pro models. That is not the only issue though, their refusal to become a registered google partner and the fact they don’t invest enough in camera technology and development means they will never be able to compete with a samsung or LG or even a huawei. Plus the fact they are so slow to update their phones to the latest android version which again makes them seem second rate. I also think their distribution is a shambles. Why they have all these crappy/shady re sellers in europe baffles me. They should simply have a central European distribution and repair centre and handle all orders themself online from within europe, a bit like oneplus has if they really want to be taken seriously. Its a real shame because i really like meizu but they just cant seem to get their act together.
