Did you notice yet? GizChina.com (your favourite Chinese tech site) just got a whole lot faster!
Karel and co. managed to do some backend magic (that I really don’t know much about, to be honest) to make GizChina a whole lot faster.
Not only does the homepage now load in just a second, also all articles and other pages are blazing fast!
The update, I’m told, has something to do with adding an Nginx proxy server in between the client and the apache host. Don’t worry if it doesn’t make sense to you (we’re on the same boat), it just means that the site is now going to be much faster than before!
Gizchina News of the week
If you’re more into numbers, the GizChina homepage (one of the heaviest pages on the site) loads in about one second as compared to four seconds previously. How cool is that!
You can have a quick check here – https://tools.pingdom.com/#!/eBNXRP/http://gizchina.com
Oh and also, something absolutely new and fresh — GizChina 3.0 — is coming your way soon! More on this later.
We’re committed to making GizChina.com the go-to portal for Chinese tech enthusiasts the world around. We’re also open to all kinds of constructive criticism, feedback, and banter. Feel free to get in touch anytime!
Well its good to see some improvements
Good news, but there still some css (like style.css) and javascript file that are not minified. And the jquery version 1.12.4 should be read from CDN it is for free and geolocated like (https://developers.google.com/speed/libraries/#jquery), the job is very good but not done completey.
I’ll pass on this info, thanks!
Only if they were fast in resolving problems when you one after purchase issues
And if you remove these annoying ads and change the chat plugin it will be even faster 🙂
Don’t think ads are going anywhere in the near future. As much as we want to get rid of them, the site needs funds to function (sadly). Also, what chat plugin do you refer to?
Indeed, Thanks!
Realised it only after reading this 😛 nice!
