A few months back, Instagram introduced the ‘stories’ feature that took a clear dig at popular video-and-photo based chat app Snapchat. Today, another one of Facebook’s acquisitions — WhatsApp — announced it would be getting a similar update.
The feature — titled ‘WhatsApp Status’ — will allow users to post videos and images as ‘status’ (i.e., stories) which will auto-destruct in 24 hours.

Like the other platforms featuring similar systems, you will have the ability to control who sees your statuses. Starting with the Netherlands and France, the feature will start rolling out for both iOS and Android today with other markets to follow.
While it may not be the most innovative idea ever, it does seem like a very smart addition to keep up adoption rates up.
