Another rumor to have surfaced recently is the talk about the next Pixel device sporting a curved display. And it came in light due to Google’s reported interest to invest $875 million in LG display. As we all know, LG is one of the biggest and most ambitious manufacturers of phone screens.
South Korean new agency, the Yonhap News Agency reported, “Google is willing to make an investment totaling some 1 trillion KRW (US$876 million) into LG Display Co.’s flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels in an apparent bid to secure a stable supply.” Sources say that this might be due Google’s plan of using an OLED panel for its next device. This may even reduce Google’s dependency on using displays made by Samsung.
Gizchina News of the week
LG has been known to be innovative when it comes to display technologies. From IPS LCD panels to OLED and curved display, they have done it all. Google might end up using the curved displays provided by LG. What this means, is that there might be a major overhaul in the pixel design.
Currently, only LG and Samsung have been successful in implementing curved displays. Even Apple using a curved display for the next iPhone, is up on the rumor train. The only devices in the market to sport a curved display, currently, are from the Samsung Galaxy family, the S7 series and the S8 series.
