And this comes from the most prominent source guys, the Chinese company itself! They just tweeted another teaser about the upcoming launch of the OnePlus 5 model and revealed the backside of the phone… which is basically identical to the one the iPhone 7 Plus has!

We can see the dual camera positioned on the top left side of the device, along with the LED flash and the U-antenna line, but unfortunately it seems there’s no 3.5mm audio jack on the top of the phone. This either means that the slot is positioned on the bottom of the model, or that it doesn’t have one, in favor of the USB Type-C connector.
So, now we know a lot of facts about the upcoming flagship killer and that’s good: it’s an iPhone 7 Plus clone, it packs a dual camera, it will be equipped with a Snapdragon 835 SoC and it will cost approximately 550 Euros in the European markets!
For the rest you’ll have to wait until the 20th of June.

Here’s the problem with these phones: merely using Snapdragon 835 doesn’t mean anything. If one requires an overall device, it should sport a good combo of all features (sound and call quality, camera quality, I/Os like video out, IR, NFC, QC4, wireless charging. FM receiver if one doesn’t want to use internet radio etc.). For example, ZTE’s Axon 7 is great value for money at its price. It almost ticks all the boxes, and certainly offers much more than OnePlus 3 could at a lesser price, rounding the package with sheer audio brilliance (remember the dedicated amplifiers for both channels?)! Snapdragon’s native codecs are actually $hitty-a$$ in comparison.
Then comes the question of software support – OnePlus has gained notoriety with promising updates on a number of recent phones (including its original “flagship” – the OnePlus One) and then going on backfoot.
While ZTE is no better with software either, at least their hardware is top-notch for the price.
I would bet my money on a company that has proven itself as an all-rounder – that’s ZTE for me. OnePlus has still not reached that mark, and I’m not willing to trust them anymore to provide updates, given the history.

Batt size disappoints me more than the product design. Every damn time qcom make some efficiency progress for their top SoC, OEMs would scramble to thin things up just for the heck of it.
