Ever since smartphones were able to collect your data, be used for banking and even just snap personal photos, smartphone makers have worked on ways to make handsets more secure, to keep your personal information safe from prying eyes.
Originally, the only methods to secure your smartphone was to either use a passcode, pin number or a unique pattern, but more recently fingerprint scanners have become a popular method to keep your phone safe.
Fingerprint scanners aren’t the only option though. We’ve seen in the past some smartphone makers attempt to use Iris recognition hardware to keep phones safe, but new 2nd generation systems promise to be even faster while being more accurate.
As the iris is a unique part of every person and given that it remains largely unchanged from the age of 2 means that the chances of breaking into a phone with Iris recognition software are very slim. From a hardware point of view, it makes excellent sense to as no additional hardware needs to be added to a phone to maintain security.

Current phones with fingerprint scanners require special attention to the design of a fingerprint scanner, and close inspection of where the fingerprint scanner will be located but using the front camera, a feature on every smartphone, means that no additional hardware needs to be designed in.
