The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is the rugged and durable counterpart of the Galaxy S8. It has been making the rounds online for a while now and Samsung has finally announced the smartphone which will be available for pre order starting tomorrow through AT&T.
The S8 Active sports a design made for rugged use. Samsung let go of the curved side edges, a good idea since durability is the reason behind an active version. On the spec front, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is very much similar to the Galaxy S8, sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM, expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. The camera is a 12MP snapper on the back and an 8MP snapper on the front. It’ll feature a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2960×1440 with Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
Gizchina News of the week
The main difference between the S8 and the S8 Active is the MIL-STD-810G specification that makes it shock resistant along with IP68 water proofing. At 9.9mm thickness and a weight of 208 grams, the S8 Active will be heavier than the S8. Another major difference is the inclusion of a larger, 4000mAh battery as compared to the 3000mAh on the S8.
Currently available in two colors, Titanium Gold and Meteor Grey, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is priced at $850 unlocked and can be purchased through AT&T for a 30 month plan amounting to $28.34 per month. Pre orders start tomorrow.
