Since 2016 — if not earlier — the mobile phone market has been become one of the most competitive scenes in the tech industry. Margins are thin for everybody, except maybe Apple and few other brands, and the market has changed.
Consumers now pursuit quality and brand recognition over saving a buck or two and avoid buying lower quality devices. This is true for most Chinese companies like Huawei, Vivo, Oppo and — in a much smaller scale — Cubot.
Cubot started getting more international at the beginning of the past year, when they were part of the MWC of Barcelona that took place in February 2016. Where, through a cooperation with Cheetah mobile, the Cubot Cheetah was born.
The smartphone got a lot of media coverage from big tech sites such as Digitaltrends, Gsmarena, Venturebeat, Cnet and more. So much that the handset went out of stock for a while. They then released the Cubot Cheetah 2 which has also been quite successful.
We then had the Cubot Rainbow and Note S, which are selling well in Europe, Russia and some African regions. Cubot slowed down in the next months as they were working on the creation of their daughter company – Hafury. A company that will aim their efforts at the American continent.
At the beginning of 2017 Cubot came back strong and until now they’ve launched a smart bracelet named Cubot S1 and three smartphones, the Cubot Rainbow 2, Cubot R9 and Cubot Magic.
The Cubot S1 is the third-generation of Cubot bracelet series. The bracelet comes with a very accurate heart rate sensor that is comparable to those from bigger (and more expensive) brands such as FITBIT and POLAR. It also supports different sports and features, such as notifying of incoming messages and so on.
The Cubot Magic is instead the latest phone to get released by the company and it’s their most important product (according to them) for the first half of the year. The smartphone sports a really unique design with eight curved edges and a very sleek look.
With those out of the way and these four products on the market, Cubot are now working on the second half of 2017, where they’ll be releasing 7 different products, including smartphones, headphones and smartwatches.
The phones maker say mid-August (now) is when the Cubot Note Plus will be released. It’s the first smartphone from Cubot with a 16MP camera both on the front and the back. It’ll come with beautify features, self-time function and so it’s aimed at people who are really into selfies. The device will also sport a Full HD display and that’s as far as we know for now.
In September Cubot will be releasing a big battery phone, which will allegedly pack a massive 6000mAh battery and a dual rear camera setup. The smartphone will be named Cubot H3 and the company say it’ll be a great option for business people.
And here we are talking about the Cubot X18, which is probably the most interesting device the company will release this year. The handset will sports the popular 18:9 display aspect ratio, come in a full metal body and feature two dual-tone flashes on the back and a soft light at the front. The smartphone will also comes with 4G of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The Chinese company say in the second half of the year they’ll be focusing on redefining the design of their products, improve the user experience and listening more to customers’ feedback. Plus they also want to explore a bit more the outdoor and fitness market segment.
