Good news for all those performance freaks out there (like ourselves) who ask for more speed and efficiency from their smartphones, as Samsung recently announced that it will be producing 11nm chips for high-end and mid-range phones.
According to the Korean company, this specific process is called Low Power Plus (LPP) and is in fact a scaled down version of the 14nm LPP process used for chips like the Snapdragon 660 and 630. Chipsets that will be built using this process are expected to offer up to 15% boost in performance while the chip area will be reduced by 10%, meaning the manufacturing price of chips will fall. The first 11nm chipsets are expected to come out in the first half of 2018.

On the other hand, the premium -flagship – models of next year will be using the new 7nm LPP chips built with Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) lithography.
“Through this, Samsung has completed a comprehensive process roadmap spanning from 14nm to 11nm, 10nm, 8nm, and 7nm in the next three years,”
says Ryan Lee, Vice President and Head of Foundry Marketing at Samsung Electronics.
