The past few days have been truly a mess regarding the Moto G4 Plus model, especially after Motorola altered the contents of an infographic regarding the G4 Plus – there was initially a clear mention of it receiving Oreo, which was then taken out.
In case you missed it, the G4 Plus model was at first, in Motorola’s official list of smartphones that will be receiving updates to Android 8.0 Oreo – but then… it wasn’t! This made a lot of G4 Plus owners furious with this situation, and a lot of complains began to appear in several forums/blogs during the past couple of days. Motorola decided to come out and in order to avoid turning this into an all-out scandal, confirmed officially that the G4 Plus (and only this model) will get Android 8.0 Oreo at last. Sorry guys, the G4 and G4 Play will remain forever stuck on Nougat.
Gizchina News of the week
Motorola’s official statement follows:
“It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.”
This means that… the Moto G5/G5 Plus models will get ONE major Android update and then… nothing. Have this in mind next time you want to buy one of these 😉
