For the first time in the industry, 4G and 5G networks were linked together to demonstrate the communication between these networks and this was championed by an alliance between Samsung and South Korea’s major mobile carrier SK Telecom.
The 4G network uses 2.6 GHz frequency band while 5G network 28 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequency band. Despite the frequency difference, the South Korean manufacturing giant said that the demonstration was hitch free and there was clear streaming between the two networks. This success means that 4G and 5G users can interact regardless of the availability of 5G infrastructure.

SK Telecom said:
“Along with the 5G network’s 3.5 GHz frequency band that provides a wider coverage, and the 28 GHz frequency band that enables ultrahigh-speed transmission, the connection with the 4G network will help users enjoy the best communications services anywhere without disruptions”
As of now, several partners worldwide are already liaising with Samsung to further develop the 5G technology and enhance the commercialization of the new telecom standard. The South Korean tech giant believes that this breakthrough will further advertise the 5G standard.
