Last year, after the introduction of Snapdragon 835 chipset, Samsung made a deal with Qualcomm and purchased all the chips being produced at the time and this led to a serious shortage in the chipset which forced other manufacturers to either settle for an older Snapdragon version and some even used another brand of chipset altogether. Now, information springing out of Russia suggests that Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ will be the first smartphones to sport the Snapdragon 845 chipset. Russian tech journalist Eldar Murtazin said that these two devices will use the chip for an unknown period, however, the nature of the deal that Samsung has with Qualcomm on the chip was not revealed.
The tweet also said that Samsung Galaxy S9 will be released earlier than usual. This statement is not clear because the Galaxy S8/S8+ was unveiled in late March after a delay as a result of the Galaxy Note 7 recall. The South Korean manufacturing giant normally uses the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to announce its smartphones like it did for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 but this usually happens between late February/early March. The ambiguity in this statement is that Murtazin could either mean that the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled a month earlier than the usual MWC period or a month earlier with regards to the time of Galaxy S8 launch.
