Qualcomm today at the 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong announced a new mid-range mobile processor dubbed – Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform. The new SoC is said to be an edge over the SD 660 which debuted only less than a year ago and destined to end up in smartphones and tablets by early 2018 or late 2017.
It is made out of the 14nm FinFet process technology, but Qualcomm has ditched the A53 CPUs for a 1.8 GHz eight-core Kryo 260 CPUs which promises 40% increase in performance over the predecessor. The Snapdragon 636 has opted for Adreno 509 GPU which is expected to offer 10% increase in performance compared to Adreno 508.
The Snapdragon 636 SoC supports the trending Full HD+ 18:9 displays, supports 4K Ultra HD video at 30fps and 1080p at up to 120fps. Interestingly, the SoC comes with Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP and supports up to 16 MP dual camera and 24 MP single camera. Additionally, the latest mobile platform is equipped with Qualcomm’s Aqustic audio codec, which helps 24-bit, 192 kHz audio playback.

Furthermore, the SoC is equipped with the X12 modem that can offer up to 600 Mbps download speed and 150 Mbps upload speed through cellular networks.

Devices sporting with the latest SoC are expected to be released by Year-end or early 2018.
