Redmi Note 5 could be powered by Snapdragon 636 SoC

Today’s unveiling of Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chipset raised a lot of eyebrows along with several leaks/rumors regarding the first upcoming device to ever use it. An “insider” posted earlier in Weibo that the first phone to ever use this mid-range SoC could be Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 model.

Gizchina News of the week

The tipster (@grass grass) suggests that the purported specs of the Redmi Note 5 model “fit” the specs of the Snapdragon 636 chipset, like the full screen display, the FullHD+ resolution support and dual camera compatibility for up to 16MP sensors. Note that the Snapdragon 636 is expected to become available in November, so that could be a month when we will see the next Redmi Note 5 series model.

A set of photos of a mystery Xiaomi device had appeared a couple of weeks ago and rumors suggested that it could be the Redmi Note 5 model, launching initially with a Mediatek processor this year, only to be followed by a Qualcomm version (Snapdragon 636) in Q1 2018.

Yuck, patent troll qualcomm garbage again?
I’m sick and tired of this patent troll qualcomm. Manufacturers should boycott patent troll qualcomm, there are lots of other chip makers like MTK, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi now.

Xiaomi should their own chips instead of this patent troll garbage chips.
