Sharp has always been a rather interesting company to watch, if not just for their unorthodox devices. The latest news from the company is that the previously released Aquos R will get a compact version. Though honestly, it has very little to actually do with the original Aquos R.
The Aquos R Compact is Sharp’s competitor in the bezeless device market. The device features a similar tri-bezeless design, though it’s somewhat odd to see. It seems much chunkier than most other bezeless devices like the Mi Mix 2 and Essential PH-1. This is mainly due to the Samsung S3-esque chin below the 4.9-inch IGZO display.
Gizchina News of the week
Unlike the flagship Aquos R, the Compact is a mid-ranger device. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 660 Octa-core chipset and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The smartphone also boasts of 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. The main camera is a 16.4MP unit while the front is an 8MP unit.
Keeping everything running is a rather mild 2500 mAh battery. It is water resistant and dust resistant, which is a fantastic thing to see on any device. As for colour options, there are Amethyst Purple, Diamond Yellow, Tourmaline Black, and Moon White. The phone will be available in late December according to Sharp and will be a Softbank Japan exclusive.
