Just about a month after it brought its flagship Xperia XZ1 to the Indian market, Sony has again announced the availability of two Smartphones made solely for the Indian Market. The Sony Xperia R1 and Sony Xperia R1 Plus in Sony’s own term are “designed for Indian lifestyle” and “designed to excite the new Indian. A major highlight of the Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus is their support for fast upload and browsing via uplink data compression (UDC).
In terms of specs, the Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus flaunt a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor.The Xperia R1 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the Plus size Xperia R1 has a higher 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Both devices have room for memory expansion up to 128GB via a microSD card.

Both devices come fitted with a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. They are both lighted by a 2,620mAh battery and will boot Android 7.1 (Nougat) out of the box, but Sony has promised it will push Android 8.0 to both in the nearest future. Both devices also come with a full range of connectivity options including GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C and 4G LTE.
Available only in black and silver color options, the Xperia R1 and R1 plus are priced at INR 13,990 ($215) and at INR 15,990 ($245) respectively.
