There have been a lot of news with regards to the Essential Phone receiving Android 8.0 Oreo. Initially, it was reported to be “coming soon”, then news broke that it was only a few weeks away. Finally, we can now give Essential Phone users some good news. The first beta build of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Essential Phone is currently available for download.

Gizchina News of the week

You have to go to the Essential website where you will be able to download a full OTA zip file for the beta Oreo update. Please don’t forget that you will need your email to access the site. On the download page, you have a detailed direction on how to install this update. The process is quite rigorous thus you may need some assistance especially if you are not really good with a smartphone.

Please note that this is a beta update thus you should expect bugs and other issues as is common with beta programs. As of now, Essential has spotted issues with Bluetooth stability and Android auto on this update and there is probably more. Thus you should tread with caution or better still, wait for the stable version which will take some time to arrive.

Using the word “finally” suggests impatience on your part. After all the phone hasn’t been out that long, not for more patient types anyway.
