Qualcomm in partnership with both ZTE and China Mobile have announced early in the morning, that the world’s first test of 5G radio system was successful. The new technology will allow data speed to surpass 1Gbps with under 4ms of latency.
In comparison LTE Network have 20ms of latency as its standard. The base for the test system was the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) standards, a group which consist in some telecommunication companies that develop and set the defaults for 3G, 4G and for the newest 5G.
“Achieving the world’s first end-to-end 5G NR interoperable data connection is true testament to our 5G leadership, driving toward the timely launch of standard-compliant commercial networks.”
Gizchina News of the week
The 3GPP will set the standards that mobile carriers will have to work on once 5G technology get available. So any company interested in developing products with the technology need to comply and match the 3GPP rules. That’s basically what happened in the Qualcomm, ZTE and China Mobile. The success and compliance of the test will give some advantage to three in the race for the 5G adoption.
The equipment used in the testing process, included ZTE’s 5G New Radio pre-commercial base station, Qualcomm’s 5G sub 6GHz New Radio prototype, transmitting all data through the 3.5GHz band using 100MHz of bandwidth.
More and more companies are getting involved in building the necessary architecture for 5G as well as studying better solutions for adopting it in future smartphones and devices supporting the technology. The newest network will be ready for testing in 2019 with a possible global adoption by 2025.
