TCL are normally a little more prominent in the headlines than they have been recently. We’re not sure why the company are quieter than usual, but we do know that they’re still working on some interesting phones if this new TCL A5 is anything to go by.
The TCL A5 is a very interesting looking device. It features the current trend of having an 18:9 display, and it pairs that with the also popular semi-bezeless look. The large top bezel seems to hold dual front facing cameras, leaving it looking like a Razer Phone with its bottom chopped off.
Gizchina News of the week
While its design may be an odd mishmash of different devices and trends, the device’s MTK6750T processor means it’s probably a mid-range device. We don’t really know much else about the device’s specs, other than that its display is an 18:9 5.7-inch unit.
No launch date has been given for the device, though we imagine we’ll see an official launch soon enough. The Alcatel A5 is expected to sport a sub-$300 price tag and should eventually become available for purchase in both India and Europe.
Why these phones are coming without Helio P23 chipset, I don’t understand. This chip is better than P25 in all respect. We shall have dual simultaneous 4G operation and world modem as an addition.

Well, it’s a different take on the tri-bezel-less design. Some people will like the front cam on the top, where it’s more at home but I’m wondering how top heavy it will be. They could’ve made a stunner if they’d shaved a couple/few more mm off the top. I do like the textured power button too, it’s a nice detail. No hints at build materials though, I am hoping it’s not just brushed-effect plastic on the back.
