We had an impromptu announcement today guys amidst the Cyber Monday frenzy! It comes from Mediatek and it’s about a new type of chipset. It’s called MT2621 and its one of their next-gen SoC’s specifically designed for smart trackers, wearables, IoT devices but also for industrial use.
Gizchina News of the week
It supports the NarrowBand IoT R14 radio technology, in cooperation with GSM/GPRS connectivity, so this means that you can use a GSM SIM card in a wearable (equipped with this SoC) in order to have full network coverage. It packs a single-core ARM7 processor clocked at 260MHz, that has 160KB + 4MB embedded storage and it can easily run Linux-Based applications if developers are ready to work on it.
The Mediatek MT2621 has full support for camera, audio AMP interfaces for devices with sight and sound, along with Bluetooth 4.2 compatibility. It’s not strange to see this type of chipsets becoming available more and more in the coming months, as this type of technology is going to become a standard soon.
We expect to see the first IoT and wearable devices equipped with the Mediatek MT2621 chipset, by the first months of 2018.
