Back in 2013, Motorola, at that time owned by Google, released the first generation of Moto X. The device was a hit in the market, due to success of its concept of “be simple in what matter”, bring nearly vanilla Android and a good use of Google Now capabilities.
The story of X series saw a shady period during 2016, when Motorola company, now under Lenovo greatness, decided to not launch an upgrade for 2015’s Moto X Play and Moto X Pure. Until this year, when all of sudden the company decided to release the Moto X4 marking the return of the smartphone, but this time sitting at the midrange segment.
According to a recent leak exposed by no one else than Evan Blass, from evleaks, the Moto X series isn’t going away anytime soon and the Moto X5 is already in the works. The revelation was made through a picture with the logo of the referred unreleased smartphone.
Gizchina News of the week
However, Evan doesn’t mention any feature or specification sported by the device, but judging by what Moto X4 brings we can have an idea. The Moto X5 may sport a water and dust resistant body with a midrange processor, probably Snapdragon 636 and a dual rear camera setup, everything placed under an attractive price.
IMHO, the 2015 X PURE was the last best phone from Motorola. The Moto X4 is
step backward for the X line. The Oneplus 5T is what the Moto X4 2017 should have been (flagship features for an affordable price). I hope that the X5 has these features (which is not unreasonable given that most of these are standard for 2017 phones):
– Qualcomm “8xx” series CPU
– min 4GB RAM
– Zero bezel AMOLED with QHD resolution
– 64GB & 128GB memory with MicroSD expansion
– OIS camera with better low-light performance + front flash
– Fingerprint sensor “under-display” (or sensor on rear)
– Moto mod support
– Front facing stereo speakers: top & bottom (similar to Moto X PURE)
– Long life BATTERY just like the Moto PLAY series (at least 3200mAh ++)
– Quick charge 3.0
– Wireless charging
– Waterproof
– NFC
– GSM multi-band (one model with worldwide bands just like iPhone)
– Bluetooth 5.0 + APTX codec
– headphone jack (!!!)
– Android ONE support
– Built-in Moto app software (Actions, Voice, and Moto Display)
– Reinforced solid aluminum frame (premium build) similar to 2014 Moto X design
